I seem to have inadvertantly ruffled a few feathers with this one....as I said in the first part of the thread I originally posted:
"....more a refelction on whether the Internet has possibly dulled the pioneering spirit that I so fondly remember from early Carp fishing days."
I realise it...
Well, I'm happy that I've started a discussion that has provoked some thought....but somewhat saddened that it appears that a fair proportion of the tackle shops around and about seemingly aren't run by folks who can dispense advice over a wide range of angling skills. My local tackle shop is...
Good morning all,
Can I start by saying that this thread is in no way a "dig" at anybody who posts on BFW....more a refelction on whether the Internet has possibly dulled the pioneering spirit that I so fondly remember from early Carp fishing days. Back in the early 80's there was a lot more...
Oh so many tales to tell....I think I've fallen in to most rivers I've fished over the years as recently as an un-planned trip into the Severn last Winter whilst playing a Pike when the landing stage I stepped onto turned into a sort of surf board and sent me out and down....bloody cold I can...
Scubes,
As long as you can mucker....The Chub are usually feeding heavily well within 30 minutes or so and the Barbel are never far behind:)
I've sat on the Teme in the close season and fed Barbel constantly for hours and hours, usually until I run out of pellets. In a fishing situation...
Chris,
I've found that patience is the real key in this....something I'm only just getting enough of:rolleyes:
I've found that reading the swim so that you are able to make a decent guess at where the fish will be lying, where they'll come from and where you want them to be feeding when...
Ray,
I've always thought that a book on the subject by yourself was long overdue....will be having a copy of that when it comes out :)
As a method it is something that I've done a bit of with a bit of success and plan to do more of this time round - I've said that for the past 3 close...
On the Barbel Even Closer DVD Stu Morgan rolls some worms round a Thames weirpool with only a light ledger....IMO all you need is enough weight to get the bait down to the bottom and no more - after all, you want the bait to waft about and move with the flow as naturally as is possible...
seems a shame really that you have to resort to eBay litigation to get the items you've already paid for :(
On a different note though, when I saw the thread title I immediately thought of Scuba !!!!
Darren,
Been a bit quiet really although there are a couple of threads on landing nets and unhooking mats that will help us all to get through the close season.
Have a look at the Severn Rivers Trust thread though - nice one ;)
Go steady
Paul
Hutchinson Seafood Blend was one that made me physically gag when knocking up bait in the past....that in conjunction with green lip mussel on a decent fishmeal base caught plenty of Carp back in the day but stank to high heaven !!!!
