Just noticed I said that the SRT is for all those who fish in the Severn Area. It is only right that I make it clear it is not just for Anglers, although anglers do predominate amongst the present trustees. The SRT is for all those who love the rivers,. We already have involvement from surfers, who are keen to defend the Severn estuary as the Bore is one of those unique things that makes this river system special. Many wildlife groups and even canoeists!
Sounds like a recipe for a punch up...but actually there is much we all share in common and many do more than one activity.
Some of you, I am sure, have come across Tony Bostock, who is the driving force behind the group. One of those blokes who works away quietly in the background for the benefit of us all and
unlike me he manges to be polite and reasonable at all times which helps when dealing with the political stuff! Tony has got lots of things of the ground already and I hope to start publishing them through the site.
Personally I have been really pleased to see so many anglers and many of the local clubs getting involved in this. Hopefully it will, at the minimum give those who use the river a greater say in how the present cash spent by the EA and the European union is distributed. Particullalry in supporting many of the local angling clubs who already do so much, often on shoestring budgets, through the voluntary activities of members to keep our rivers fishable.
The
Facebook site has been set up alongside the main site for people wanting to comment, make suggestions and generally tell others about their particular interesting bits of the river system. As the SRT is a charity it will be moderated, there are restrictions on how "political" a charity can be!
You will see on the main site
a list of the various organisations already signed up. If you bare a member of any relevant organisation, particularity angling clubs, ask them to get in touch.
