    Touch legering and rolling baits

Mark. The Johnson Ross Torrix's are nice but they come with a very short piece of cork infront of the reel seat. Best thing I can do is send you a picture of one of mine. Personally this isn't the best for centrepin fishing but it's a cheaper option than a custom build.

Drennan Specialist landing net handle EUREKA moment

Bought a Gardner after driving over my Drennan. The thread came out the end under minimal pressure. Heavy to use but with a bit of araldite decent enough.

    Touch legering and rolling baits

The Harrison SU Avon ( 1lb 6oz tc) is a very good rod for this type of fishing. The Torrix 11' 1.75 is highly rated but has a faster action which some people prefer. It's very light and has a very fine tip. You are possibly restricting yourself just using a pin but if that's what you want to do...

    Centre pin protective pouch

As you aren't leaving them on the rods ( nor do I) You might be interested in the NGT ones. I bought them. Not expensive but well made. Here's a picture.

    More Tench advice please.

Whizzed up sweetcorn in a blender stiffened with brown crumb is also good. You can add anything else you like to it. If the small fish are a pain I have found a small 10 - 12 mm pop up very successful. If you can stretch to a pot of pineapple pop ups I'd use those but any fishy or fruity flavour...

    Another tackle shop going

Ralph. I can tell you that the 1.06lb Harrison Avon is very different to the Torrix 11' 1.75. I own both. The Avon is a progressive action and will bend right through and is a great rod for playing Barbel on at close range. The Torrix is much more tippy in action. It has a very fine tip but is...

    Great Ouse stocking

I don't know about everyone else but I personally don't begrudge the Heron's a few. They belong there, Cormorants though don't. They are a different matter entirely. Hugely destructive birds.

    Great Ouse stocking

Yes. Same as the Throop fish. Good luck with it. 🤞

    Great Ouse stocking

Surely that's far better than fish from another river? Do you mind saying which club and river? I wonder whether other clubs might be interested in how they are going about it?

    Great Ouse stocking

I do know on the Dorset Stour at Throop they are trying really hard to increase the Barbel numbers. There's plenty of excellent habitat with trees and sanctuary areas. I wish them well with it. The Avon Roach project guys are also working hard on the Avon and are carrying out enhancements to the...

    Great Ouse stocking

Hi John. Yes I remember it well. I do understand that they were trying to get the population going further up the river and the EA had done a fair bit of work in the river in these areas to improve the habitat but the places they stocked them ( Wimborne aside) were not areas where many fish...

Maybe there is some data? I don't know.

    Great Ouse stocking

I wish there was some data on the likely survival rates of these stockings. I think there's a better chance with these bigger fish ( as with the more recent Stour stockings) but surely rather than just sticking them in regardless and letting them get on with it something a little more controlled...

Preston supera X power float rods.

I have the 14' Supera match. Though it's a standard match rod it's a great rod imo. It will handle big Chub as well as fish like Grayling, Roach etc. I even had a 6lb plus Salmon on mine! ( kelt but fought like stink).

    Bloody typical

Happy memories of bullheads. Used to catch them with my hands in the local stream. I'd like to think they're still there. 🙂

    River Piking - Paternoster question

Many coarse fish deadbaits will float naturally due to the swim bladder still containing air. These are great for popped up presentations.

    River Piking - Paternoster question

Short answer is no. I have paternostered dead baits for years on rivers and still waters. I tend to hook baits in the lip and flank but just through the lips for smaller baits. Neutral buoyancy issues I've never even considered! Just hook it on and cast it out! Pike will take it if they're there...

    Rod for grayling

I bought a Preston Supera 14' and it's superb for Grayling. I made a short butt to convert it to a 12' first fishing parts of the Dorset Frome and am very pleased with it. It's great with small hooks and light lines but I beat a 6lb plus ( atleast) Salmon on it so it will handle powerful fish as...

Best reel For trotting when casting distance?

Whatever you get, make sure it has the back wind facility.

Best reel For trotting when casting distance?

I have used closed faced reels for years and caught lots of Chub on them. It's true you can have a few issues with line bedding in after playing a decent fish but a false cast ( preferably not over your taking area) to reset the line will cure it. You can use your finger to feed line to cure the...
