I had my first blank with my new ones on Saturday. If past performance is anything to go by it may be some time before I can comment on how the perform when connected to a fish. However, they seem well made and nicely balanced. I would echo Clive's comments, they are more of a 4000 size than a 5000.

I must say I'm very tempted with P1's, but P2's also a consideration. I think I'm still leaning towards pike rods as the ultimate flexible, least compromising option.

My question is the other way round really. You might be able to cope with getting stop knots through small eyes but what do you gain with using small eyes? Or what is the disadvantage of big eyes?

Thanks for the offer Peter but I really am trying to tick all the boxes with a single pair of rods. I think this rules out barbel rods due to the smaller eyes and stop knot issue. Incidentally I wonder why barbel rods do have smaller eyes, is there any specific benefit or has it just evolved...

I'm thinking of investing in a pair of multi purpose rods. I'd want to use them for dead baiting for pike, close to medium range carp fishing and occasional barbel trips on the Trent when it's up. I need to get more braid hook link and just wondered if any one had any recommendations? I'm looking for something uncoated. I've been using Gardner which has been OK but just wondering if there are better options out there.

Do you braid users also go with braid hook links?
