    Bleak

Ray Mumford won the Glading Masters, back in the 70's with, I think, 16lb of them. That was from the Nene if memory serves me right. We used to pull a section of mono over a finger nail to make it coil about 3ft above the hook, and grease the coil and this was used as a float.

Oh that is really one for the tackle tarts. No reel can ever be worth that much or perform that much better.

    Baby milk

Hello Luke I have been using SMA, for years, in a paste I make with ⅓ each of SMA, Ovaltine, and Horlicks. Add eggs and stiffen up with some flour . Have never tried it for barbel, however have had Carp, Tench, & Bream first time out with no pre baiting. It can be a bit sticky but it works.

    Taking pictures when fishing alone..

Chris, I also fish alone in the main, and I have used a small very light weight tripod that I have had for years. It folds down to 12" and extends to 24" and weighs no more than a normal bank stick. Check out the site shop they have the standard bank stick adaptor, and an infinately more...

    budget rod to buy?

Well I got it bent with a 4.5lb chub, and a 7.2lb barbel from the Rother, and it behaved exceptionally well. I don't think you could better it for the money.

    budget rod to buy?

Just bought a Shakespear mach 2 xt Barbel rod, 12ft, twin tip, 10 rings, and although the test curve is not stated I would say it is about 1.75lb. It comes with a bag and an oval tube. From my local tackle shop, with no add on's for P&P, it set me back £44.95. I have never been a tackle tart...

    limited edition

Any one notice the full page addvert on the back of the Anglers Mail for the Matt Hayes limited edition centre pin? It looks like a nice piece of kit, however it does say there are only a few left which probably explains why the man himself couldn't get one. He is pictured in the back ground in...

    Counting down..............

Graham like Mark I thought it was only me. I decide to re cast or pack up, and slowly count to 10 then strike. I have never connected with a fish during the count down, and think to myself you have been at it for 10 hours so what makes you think 10 seconds will make any difference.

    Rod length help

I would agree with Paul about more power in an 11ft. So if you are looking for power in a rod why not take this further and go 10ft or even 9? I personally don't want to fish with what would be the equivilent of a up tide rod, and have a preference for a 12ft with good through action. I find the...

Can anyone recommend me a brolly?

Hello Andy, In a split second you can colapse the brolly and chuck it on the ground. With a good army Goretex you will just get a bit damp, and any Barbel is worth getting wet for. You can't play a fish very well from under a fixed brolly so will need to come out in the weather.

Can anyone recommend me a brolly?

Get a golf type of brolly, dirt cheap, so light you don't notice it. You can tuck bags and bits arround and under your chair put up your brolly and hold it to tilt in what ever direction you want, and keep nice and dry. Don't have to worry about pegs and ropes. As soon as the rain stops put it...

    whats your pb barbel???

PB 15:08, and YTD 15:03 My PB moment though was 6 years ago at Arley on the Severn. A chap on the other bank had a Kingfisher land on his rod and I said to my mate "Ihave been fishing for more than 50 years and have never had a kingfisher perch on my fishing rod". Believe it or not the next day...

    Strange catch....

At Fishers Green about 7 years ago I hooked a Seymo bait dropper neatly through one of holes, and still using it to day. Some time ago my mate had a Great Crested Grebe on a ledgered sprat that was meant for Pike in Whyke Lake, Chichester. It was returned alive and kicking.
