Advice needed for a fixed spool float fishing reel for trotting.

Well today I picked up a Cadence CS7 4000 after being invited to compare this reel and a CS10 4000 on one of my rods to see how it balanced out. Many thanks to Andrew Burt for the demo. Also i would like to thank everyone who gave their advice. It's very much appreciated. For the price I think...

    Floats

Andy I have to say your 'big floats' are absolutely superb. I fished a 8.5g one today on the Wye and loved every minute of my day. Didn't catch any barbel but had plenty of chub. These floats cast lovely, hold back perfectly and provide sensitive bite detection. And are so visible at distance. I...

Advice needed for a fixed spool float fishing reel for trotting.

Richard regarding the matrix reel after a little search i found the matrix hx pro which is definitely a well thought out trotting reel, apparently they have designed it thinking about the distance of your fingers to the spool there by making it easier to trap the line for holding back the float...

Advice needed for a fixed spool float fishing reel for trotting.

Lots of food for thought with the choices of reels, thanks guys your advice is very much appreciated. I've kindly been offered a demo of the Cadence CS7 4000 and CS10 4000 next week so will be able to see how they balance up on my rods. Today from the tackle shop I picked up some chest waders...

Advice needed for a fixed spool float fishing reel for trotting.

I did message a guy about a pair of Shimano ST 2500 FB but alas no reply as of yet. I will be definitely putting in lots of practice with my centerpin as I like to learn new skills. No doubt playing a fish this way is going to be fun. Is there any way of finding out where the next event that...

Advice needed for a fixed spool float fishing reel for trotting.

Wow, lots of great advice from everyone. Thank you all very much. I have some researching to do. I did have a look at the candence reels at the Evesham Angling fair the other day and I'm kind of kicking myself for not buying one at the time as they were discounted quite heavily. I know I have a...

Chickpeas and other cheap alternative baits

Too be honest I've never tried tiger nuts but I don't see why they wouldn't work. Tiger nuts have been used by carp angler's for age's but to my knowledge lots of fisheries on lakes ban them because they take so long to break down and if you have angler's poring them into a lake they will end up...

Chickpeas and other cheap alternative baits

I like a good book as I'm from a time before the Internet, that's how I learned to fish. Well and the help of a good neighbour that took me under his wing so to say. I'd scour jumble sales and car boot sale that my parents would take me to for anything fishing related. Mr Crab tree and the...

Chickpeas and other cheap alternative baits

Thanks for the recipe David, all tips are gladly welcomed. I've got a few things to try flavouring my chickpeas with like turmeric, hot paprika, garlic granules and some fish sauce to start with.

Chickpeas and other cheap alternative baits

Chickpeas are soaking now as im going to try pre sprouting them for a try at the weekend. I'll post back with my findings. I'm going to prepare some plain and some with flavourings just to see if theres any difference in attraction. Hopefully the river Wye will gain some height with the rain...

Chickpeas and other cheap alternative baits

Very interesting about using pre sprouted particles, i will definitely be trying that out. A quick Google search and I've found the carp strikes back has been reprinted in a paper back edition for £18.95, not bad seeing as the original hardback is going for about £100. Sweetcorn is a great bait...

Chickpeas and other cheap alternative baits

I have to admit years ago fishing a commercial carp fisherie, I put on a jelly baby sweet just to see if they would work and sure enough I caught. So yes fish will eat most things. Also I'm not worried about the cost of baits, as I've always had much success with worms and natural baits but will...

    Floats

Thanks for the advice Rich, appreciate it. I'm itching to get out and try them. They are lovely floats, very nicely made and big for big baits. Very visible at distance no doubt. I'll report back on my findings in due course. With the rain coming, hopefully won't be too long.
