Thanks for the offer Nick, sorry for the late reply - thought this thread would have died after posting of Steve's kind offer. He's keen as mustard now and I think it best to let him find his own way in angling - in time he'll discover the likes of Miles and Yates for himself, quite quickly if...
Groundhog Day! https://barbel.co.uk/site/vbulletin/forum/barbel-talk/7448-otter-petition.html
A year has passed and here we are again. Same sh!t different day. If you are a sensible angler, who genuinely cares about the environment - don't sign this petition. It's ill thought out badly worded...
On the flip side I've been sat on the Ribble when it's been bank high and raging, whole trees, caravans and sheds floating down and watched Barbel rolling out in the middle of the river!
Fishmeal based ground baits work well and as Jon says, hemp is a great attractor for Barbel. For an off the shelf mix you could do far worse than Sonu's Hemp n Hali crush.
I've used Powerline for years and it's a great hooklength material. Low diameter, supple and with a bit of give in it unlike many pre-stretched lines. On the middle Trent I generally opted for the 0.21mm using 10lb Big Game mainline. That was as high as it went a few years ago but they've added...
Spot on Mike. Otters are not going to go away. As anglers we need to learn to live with them. The best thing we can do right now is to educate Joe public that many of our rivers are incapable of supporting a healthy population of Otters due to a lack of food. If we do that, Joe public will want...
Thanks for the replies Chaps. Actually got just what i was looking for last week when fellow BFW member Steve Gregson sent me a mint copy of Fishing by Purnell, Yates and Dawn - a 3 part boxed guide to Fishing, wouldn't even accept my offer to cover postage costs! Just shows what a great place...
Can anyone recommend a good, modern, basic guide to fishing book? Something that covers UK coarse fishing or preferably coarse, game and sea. I'm looking for a gift for my young nephew and although tempted to pass on my copy of 'Fishing with the Experts' it's a bit dated!
Victory by superior fire power! You're an animal Wayne!! :D
I use a 2.25 as standard and have had the cork creaking on more than one occasion when putting the brakes on a big fish using 12lb mono. It bends beautifully. I don't use braid because I don't like it - a personal thing.
Great idea Howard. Shame for your 100k that Prologic beat you to it by a good few years! http://prologicfishing.com/log/pdf/ddbait-download-152.pdf
. . and Chris beat me to the post by a few seconds!
Fishless will remember one Ribble flood when I lobbed 8oz out a rod length or two only to have it skipping on the surface within a few seconds such was the force of the water! Wrong peg . . .
Very good post Gavin and worth quoting the whole thing in case the point didn't hit home first time. Think about it chaps. I've seen plenty of roving anglers with roll up unhooking mats strapped to their rucksacks - more buoyancy at the back, exactly where you don't want it! I've used small...
Love the Trigga Ice range for winter barbel. Hardly ever use the boilies though, my main approach is a couple of the 8mm pellets glued onto the hair with a mix of 8mm and 4mm pellets in the feeder trapped between a plug of Trigga carpet feed mixed with a dash of Ice liquid in the water. Much...
