    Shimano D vs OC

Don't take them on holiday, my 8000 OC is feeling decidedly rickety after taking a bit of a hammering from a few tropicals !

    BIG CHUB

4 lb is a specimen where I fish!

    Red Lion up for sale

I'm sure it's been for sale for a fair amount of time, I suspect there must be plenty of expensive to remedy problems with it.

    Braid

I've used super slick too, and it's certainly good line, but find it's like rope for the breaking strain compared to j braid. I'm sure it's understated on diameter, and breaking strain as well.

    Braid

I find Diawa j braid 8 strand very good, and reasonably priced. Use it for overseas stuff and never had a problem with it. Very strong for the diameter.

    Martin Bowler leaving Drennan

Yes, Huanzhou, I agree. I had a look at their website last night and it gave me that impression as well. I don't know much about Nash, but a brief search suggested it was basically a Carp fishing concern, so I assume by recruiting Martin they are hoping to get into the "specialist" market. Might...

    What is fishing?

Snooker and Darts?😂....in the old days☹ It's a sport for me. Hobbies are things like building models, pastimes are crosswords.....

Front Drag reels for barbel fishing with no baitrunner......

I like 'em, and 4000d's are more than adequate for my fishing and very neat, imo. I seldom fish 2 rods, but when I do I think they're essential, and very convenient if you need a Pee, unless, of course, you are happy to wind in or just stand up and slash in the peg!

    What would you do...?

In my experience, "guides" are often inclined to interpret Club rules to fit their requirements. I'd report it to the Club.

Autumn wye barbel approach (this weekend! )

It certainly has potential for some big fish , a good few years back a friend of mine had a 35lb Carp while fishing for Barbel there.

NEW ! The grand fishing adventure

I suspect there are a lot more Carp Anglers than people who skulk about on the bank in tatty Tweeds with split cane rods and ancient centrepins!

NEW ! The grand fishing adventure

You're right, Terry. I've learnt loads already, I can see my rods are completely inadequate, my reels the same as they dont hold half a mile of 20lb, and I now see a willow twig is not appropriate as a rod rest and I need a great big contraption that would be very at home on Chesil...

Hi Richard, What methods do you prefer for where you fish?

    Hook choice???

Surprised no one has mentioned the talon tips, excellent hair rig hooks, imo.

Best approach for low density water.

I've found a stretch not too far from home where there are a few Barbel, not many come out, but it is a nice place to fish and I don't mind putting a bit of time in there. What would be my best approach? I'm thinking maybe maggot feeder on one rod, depending on nuisance fish numbers, and meat on...
