a diluted fairy liquid in warm water and a scrubbing brush will bring the cork gleaming clean and no smoke smell but dry it off with a cloth and put in a warm place to dry it properly, dont try to disguise it with flavouring as youll taint your bait every time you touch it;):)

great news, the doctor have had me lving whout oxgyen for past 11 days and are teling me to let my lungs heal themselves diabetes is still a problm but its maybe the restart of a better quality of life:D:D:D

Gordon Bennet!. most club anglers back in 50s ,60s and 70s used either a light, medium or heavy caster, 7,ft or so of built cane for their lead and swimfeeder work, majority fishing thames or near london areas definately did so unless they were dedicated specimen hunters where built cane rods...

i have seen both carp and barbel leaving the harbour i seen and browsing on the sea bed , they seemed unperturbed by the bracksh/ salty water

really, my old 21/4 tricast ERs took so much hammering and temper filled abuse had to see to beleive but the guy who bought em after at least 12 years of that thought they were terrific:D so did i once i sold em:(
