River Record ( To claim or not )

It seems to be a Severn thing whereby fry in the margins do not show on the lower. Hopefully up stream they do.

River Record ( To claim or not )

For me river records are fine as a gauge as to what any river can sustain as to larger fish stocks. But just how many fish are returned without weighing and any thoughts of publicity? There are some weird folk out there that are hell bent on ruining not only your hot peg.

    New daiwa connoisseur rod

Very true Luke, and of course the real advantage of a longer rod is mending the line, but that frankly has never been that much of an issue with a 13ft or my 14 ft rod, and as you say the task of netting a fish or 'to hand' is a lot easier with a shorter rod. Still if it keeps us lot shelling...

    New daiwa connoisseur rod

Of course the 13ft rod is the template and is the choice of many for the reasons of ease of use and in the right hands will be as good as anything else.

Which braided mainline for rolling meat?

Why put the welfare of fish at risk with braid? So much evidence that supports braid as being harmful to fish. The benefit of using the stuff is so minimal imo, it's just not worth taking the risk.

    Small leads and short hooklinks

All my old stomping grounds Etienne, yes there were barbel stocked in Keynsham, probably found their way into the Avon, well certainly I would say, upper Chew too shallow imo. I am old as dirt, and used to fish Shepherds Boat House weir Keynsham before Barbel were a thing, trout and even the...

    Small leads and short hooklinks

True...I also fished the BA and Chew, mainly Keynsham and c. Pensford for mainly trout.

    Small leads and short hooklinks

Perhaps the splash of a feeder is better suited to rivers that have a higher density of fish, where shoaling fish have competition for food? Certainly it seems to attract on the Wye, but perhaps not so much on the WA and similar. The latter river leaving the rig in place long enough is...

    Small leads and short hooklinks

I always use as light a lead as possible, anything more than an ounce and half feels clunky. Obviously I have to scale up if needed. As far as length of hooklink a lighter lead can enable a shorter hooklength and by keeping the tip down solves a problem. I have found some old pebble weights...

    New John Baker video

100% agree Barry, if the Barbel are not in any numbers and not competitively feeding then feeding large amounts of any feed is counter productive. We are increasing searching out solitary fish where perhaps a single bait surrounded by a small package of feed is better. This is why pva is so...

The Torrix 11ft 1.75 is the one.

    Rivers I have fished

Much the same as many on here, but I raise you the Chelt, plus Brinkworth Brook (a tributary of Bristol Avon that is a chalk stream and was stuffed full of coarse fish), the Chew, Arrow, and Isbourne. 😎

    Catapult ban?

The headlines on BBC news just now reports on catapults being used to harm animals. Of course that is repulsive, but typical BBC shows an angler loose feeding with one. Clueless.

Advice needed for custom power float rod

Plenty of good off the shelf rods that don't need and fiddling with to 'improve' performance. You say that because they are factory made and cast doubt on the quality of components is frankly a bit elitist. These long trotting rods are a bit specialised, and undergo many tests before bringing...

Advice needed for custom power float rod

Sorry but does have be £1000's spent on a rod even if it's your Birthday? Plenty off the shelf carbon sticks that would do a fine job, why you probably already have it. You would think the effort applied by rod manufacturers would count more than these expensive custom rods. OK I could afford a...

Still a place for a lump of luncheon meat
