    Okuma centrepin question

here is a link to the reel to which I refer: Okuma Fishing Products | Buy Reels Are we talking a different beast? Although I gave the box and parts list to the guy I sold it to I am 100% sure it was the same bearing number as the Sheffield as I checked and it clearly states German.

    Okuma centrepin question

Same bearings in both! Both are machined from the same aluminium and anodised. Anyone else? Only difference I can see is cosmetic.

    Okuma centrepin question

I recently sold a Aventa Pro and kept a Sheffield. Apart from a few cosmetics I could not tell the difference and I really liked the anodised colour of the Aventa. Anyone know a value added difference?

    head torch

I received the Alpkit this morning delivered to work. Great service. Certainly won't easily loose it. Seems good value for money, very impressed so far. :)

    head torch

I bought a couple of the caps. Excellent as you say for baiting up etc. awaiting delivery of the Alpkit. Not to expensive if it's not quite what I want.

    Hinders Elips Pellets

I spoke to Jon a couple of weeks ago he said all elliptical pellets were going to be a thing of the past. I had been looking to buy some Sonobaits and some bankside. Never had any luck with the grubbers. Ended up with a couple of others terming them 'bankside barbel Repellents', others catch on...

    head torch

Thanks everyone for your advice. I think I will go for the Alpkit Manta as recommended by several. Seems great value and gets good reviews on some serious hiking and climbing sites so should be up to the rigours of the Avon. if I need more light there are some other choices but for the money it...

    head torch

I've never done a lot of fishing in the dark preferring to retire to the pub after sunset but recent results have seen me on the bank for extended periods after dark. Although I have several head torches and other lights occasionally I would like more light sometimes focused for baiting up etc...

If you're using a ground bait feeder bury part of the hooklength in it making a loop. Used to do it all the time bream fishing

    Non-Shimano Reel Thread!

Totally agree about Okuma. Trouble is my Epix Pros are wearing out. I will be giving the Shakey reels a go. Very good spec and value.

    Coated Braid Hooklink

The Drennan sinklink is a 'coated' braid. It is very thin maybee one of the higher strains would suit your use? I assume you wish to strip it back?

    Fluorocarbon Hooklinks?

This is the same line as Grand Max Riverge. I like it and use it for trout, mullet and barbel in clear water with few snags. BS and knot strength is good other (stiffer) fluorocarbons have better abrasion resistance

New reel line for the forthcoming season

I did a good bit of research and then tried a line called Profish Ghostline. It is awesome. Not easy to get hold of but well worth it.

    Reuben Heaton 9000 Digital Scales?

I was going to ask about the rechargeables as they are not really suitable where a long wait between charges is the norm but as you say you're other applications seem OK. On the other hand if the scales require any power between use they will drain rapidly. It would be worthwhile putting some...

    Reuben Heaton 9000 Digital Scales?

Blimey, thats some freezer! Do you do home cryogenics?:) I bought a set of 9000's in Alans tackle Worcester yesterday based on the recommendations on this thread for £35. they look very good and I hope its not to long before I can actually use them. Only reason I could see battery draining...
