Hi Steve, Glad to help..........I have a very light 11ft Free Spirit Barbel rod that i thought was too light for the job, but after landing a 12lb + Barbel on it in a very deep and fast swim my confidence in the rod has reached a high level, i now use it when i am trotting in nearside swims...

Normark Bob James 12ft river specialist travel rod

Hi Steve, I spoke to Bob James this afternoon, i asked him about your rod and he says its a fine light Barbel rod, but he did say that the rod bag was a green colour with gold writing, perhaps your one has faded. ALDI fishing gear

Thanks Guys, I purchased some neoprene socks, I thought they were great until I tried to get them off, impossible on my own, my wife Tina, nearly dislocated her shoulders pulling them off my feet, I went back and got a size bigger which solved the problem. Any more great IDEAS ! Brian.

    Maggots

Hi Dave, I stopped using bran years ago, go to the pet shop and purchase some sawdust, it comes in a block form and will last a very long time, just scrape it off the block when required. When I go to the tackle shop to buy maggots I ask them not to put any bran in with them, when I get...

    Backpack style tackle bags.

Hi Stephen I've lost count at the amount of bags I have but in answer to your original question check out the KORUM TACTICAL BAG. two main pockets plus a glasses or bits pocket and a small front pocket. Yes it is a small rucksack, absolutely perfect for roving and stalking. It holds a...

    Martin Salter blog

I have witnessed an Otter attacking a Swans nest and eating the eggs, this left the Swan sitting on an empty nest for a considerable time, not nice and not natural. Last season on three occasions Otters attacked Pike anglers baits, one was hooked but fortunately it came off. Another angler had...

    Taking photo's with a flash

As I already stated, if you are taking photos at night with an iPhone 4 or 5 that has got a leather and plastic case you will get a nasty foggy flare, if you remove the case when taking night photos the flare vanishes, the flash hits the porthole sides which in turn cause the feedback flare, I...

    Taking photo's with a flash

Hi Richard If you have a protective case on your iPhone remove it when you take pics at night. What is happening is the flash hits the side of the case and causes flare. Give it a try and see the difference. Brian.

    The Close Season

Hi Graham, I forgot to mention that work is carried out on THROOP throughout the season. It's the major work that is carried out during the close season as not to disturb our members and visiting anglers. Brian.

    The Close Season

Absolutely keep the close season. Here at Throop we have a game permit, that keeps one or two eyes and ears on the riverbank, although there are not a great amount of members that hold this permit. The close season here at Throop is the time when vast amounts of work are undertaken, footpaths...

    Drennan avon floats

Hi Ian, I do have some of those paints from Hobbycraft, you are quite right, they are very good value for the money. I have just purchased a pot of LUMO paint by Sensa, not cheap at £7 a pot but very luminous. If you look at the Drennan luminous floats in yellow, that look like a...

    Drennan avon floats

Hi Graham, these look good mate, I will check these out. By the way, its my poor old eyes, I can see the yellow better than any other colour even in different river light conditions. I wonder if it will improve my catches ? cheers mate, thanks for your help. Brian.

    Drennan avon floats

Hi Guys, I have tried in vain to obtain 5aa and 7aa Avon crystal floats with the yellow tops, apparently when they are sent to the shops in packs of 10 and there are only two yellow tops in the packet and they are sold very quickly. Has anyone got a contact number for Drennan Or perhaps...
