I think as many others are going to say, brilliant rods, just built down to a price. Cheap rings and cork wrap over foam, but I have no issues with that.
0.75, 1.25 and 1.75 have all been in my collection. Classic through actions.
You can now buy them as bare blanks with the rings if you want...
I've already a perfectly good £50 barbel rod that does what I need on the Warwickshire Avon, I don't get many barbel and still haven't had one out this season yet
It was just a general question regarding the TC of some current rods Vs their quoted line and casting weights. The spec for the 1.25...
Thanks guys,
I'm probably overthinking things by the replies, as much as I'd like one I'm never going down the custom build route and anything I buy will be online without trying first, even something priced like a FS Barbel Tamer at around £160 I'd just buy blind, hence using quoted specs to...
I did a quick search and a 2.5 Torrix is meant to be rated up to 6oz?
If that same spec of rod was only rated at say 2lb TC then would you still be looking at it's line rating and casting weight range when weighing up your options?
This goes for any rod and price, all my rods are off the...
Hi all,
Not mentioning any brands but when it comes to deciding on a rod these days is it better to go off the test curves or the line/casting weight the rod has been spec'd with?
I have a 1.25 rod that's been given a line rating of 6-12lb and a max casting weight of 3oz, now this is the same...
Hi Alan, where are you based? I don't like the stores but Angling Direct local to me has them in, maybe your nearest store does also to have a look?
I took a look at them and they seemed great little bags, the top pocket sized for the Roving Blox which I also use, leaving the main compartment...
Yeah you can get some great deals on korum stuff. I've been a fan for a long time, admit I've had a bit of a moan about them at times but all my stuff is still korum.
I should point out you can hold a mat on the shakespeare bag but they are electric straps and not D rings to clip to.
I'd still pick the Korum bag though.
I love my Korum stuff, had the current Roving kit but just bought the 35L regular rucksack. Nice bit of kit.
Shop around, I bet you'll find the progress ruckbag cheaper than the shakespeare one
When I first saw the SKP range I liked it (even though some of it was clearly rebranded) and I was going to get some the new Shakespeare luggage and rods since I used a lot of their stuff in my younger days (I lived walking distance from the warehouse in Redditch back in the day) but in the end...
I had one briefly, pretty much the Korum Ruckbag but rebranded to Shakespeare.
The chair carrying part was a strap rather than the hooks on the sides but not much difference otherwise.
I used to build these at Young's when there were still here in Redditch
There were 4 small ball bearings, sprung loaded in the twist mechanism so every quarter turn the real seat would lock into place.
There was reports of line twist from casting off the front of the reel, but Ray used Spider...
Lots of over excitement though and behind the scenes there would have been the biggest bivvys loaded with all the latest Nash products. Probably not everyone's cup of tea.
Title of the film is probably enough 😂
You may want give 'Barbel Banx' on Fish flix a miss then.
Tbh I thought most Barbel fishing was pods and alarms these days, nearly every Barbel rod on the market is 1.75 minimum, aimed at this style of fishing. I recently sold my new Drennan Barbel rod cause it just felt far too heavy for my...
To be honest catching chub over 5lb I'm finding relatively easy on the Avon no matter what tactics or bait I use, they are my blank saver! The barbel though are a different matter. I am over thinking things massively though so just need to fish I nice simple rig and be done with it.
I guess there's absolutely nothing wrong with a good old mono hooklink. And I already have some 10 and 12lb mainline left over plus some spools of Korum Smokescreen mono hooklink, although I'm going off their products.
