    Fishing wheels?

    I was tempted by a Skoda Scout which is an Octavia estate but with 4wd & more ground clearance. Popular with NHS fleets - might be able to get a decent one, some have minor adapations which might not matter much. Ended up with my Subaru & happy with it for a few years now.

    Using UPS as a courier.

    I can say they were very quick with a delivery for me - next day about 250 miles away. £30 I think. No damage, but it was inside one of those old Drennan triangular rod tubes inside a cardboard carpet tube....

    Unknown blank

    I've had a couple of Tony Fordham rods with a pattern like that - I think they were Sportes blanks.

    What is Best Relief Lotion/Cream from Insect Bites

    Calamine lotion is a bit old fashined but still works well. ( Have now got the Rolling Stones singing Poison Ivy stuck in my head!)

    Small river barbel rod

    I always use my old Terry Eustace Big Tench for the Nidd - 40 years old & fibreglass. Approx 1lb 6oz tc, bending right to the butt - quite happy with 12lb line. You'll minimise hook pulls & in those tight willow shaded swims you can smack it aginst branches with no fear of breakage! A Bruce &...

    Scales

    I've still got a set of old 8lb max Avons used for winter perch chub & roach. In fact I might as well use them for all my barbel fishing as well....

    Spam - or not?

    Try your luck with Lidl Garlic sausage. It's good stuff!

    Vehicle of choice

    I'm happy with my old Forester, but it's small compared to the Volvos. You could go all out & get an Isuzu pickup with a hardtop. I know they are diesel but you don't need roads any more & can just drive to the river in a straight line!

    Goose quills/feathers for float making

    25 approx 12" long, 25 9-10 inch long, would be ideal for some trotting floats. £15 posted.

    Grayling

    I think I'll stick to maggots following the comments... I've even got some red rubber ones which seem to get taken as freely as the real thing. I've had to give up on spade ends after realising that 20 minutes to tie just one is a waste of fishing time & I'm not much better at home with good...

    Grayling

    That's interesting! I've seen the Test fish like it well enough & thought of trying it to save having to drive round to pick up red maggots. I did have some on bread punch last year when I'd no other option, had dace as well. When it's even lower I'll get the fly rod & killer bug out! Thanks...

    Grayling

    Hoping for a few ours after grayling on the Ure when it finally drops to a sensible level. I was having a browse online & came across a `'fact' that grayling can't digest sweetcorn & it's harmful to loose feed it. Does anyone know more about this? Thanks if you can elaborate.

    Wellies

    I'm a Bekina convert as well - they are inexpensive & warm & tough! They are also nice & wide & accomodate my Z width feet & thick socks nicely in the size 13.

    using old reels

    Yes have it as my chub rod reel for the winter or occasional bit of perch spinning. Lovely clutch, needed a new anti reverse fitting but works very well. Mine has a few scuffs but works perfectly, testament to ABU of old in Sweden. Fed up that they've become `collectable` & now appear at crazy...

    using old reels

    I've still got 300`s & 410`s - had a look at the history & it seems that they may have made as many as 30 MILLION 300's! Makes the notion of them being 'collectable' a bit daft. Apart from maybe these - In 1971 Barrie Welham was awarded the very special sterling Silver Mitchell 300...

    using old reels

    I'm still with my ABU 55 from 1979, but it did spend about 20 years in a cupboard!

    Anyone had any scary/paranormal experiences on the bank?

    I was responsible for terrifying a chap one dark wet evening - walking back along a narrow section of bank in my poncho with rod over my shoulder... He heard a rustle, turned & saw the grim reaper approching & let out a bloodcurdling scream! We had a laugh when his heart rate had dropped a bit!
