I’m sure if you started doing the maths there you’d reach a conclusion.
In a warming world where we expect these things to be more frequent and extreme we would be wise to make modifications that increase flow and agitation. We’d also be sensible to decrease unnecessary abstraction and organic...
Yeah, the contribution of oxygen to the water by a typical battery powered air pump would in my assumption not be sufficient to replenish the oxygen uptake of a large fish like a barbel. It’s lip service. If I remember correctly only about 20% of the air injected into water via an air pump...
It’s been a bit more bareable here last few days, but of cloud cover at times and breeze. The Avon seems to have plateaued at about 20/21. The weekend is forecast for mid 20s but Monday, Monday is forecast for 32.
Totally agree. What I was trying to point out is that there’s no magic number that means things are safe or unsafe, there are multiple factors at play. Care is always required.
What water temperatures are being recorded around the country on your rivers that are helping to make the decision to not fish? Air temperature is, as in winter is not always in step. The D.Stour and H.Avon which run so close will be completely different at present. Saying its irresponsible to...
I think tbh people buy those 3” ones from garden centres, buy 5 for what ever and just don’t anticipate how big they get. When that fish at year 3 hits a foot in a pond only 3/4ft long they “release it to the wild”, unaware or uncaring of the potential issues that could arise. Also people buy...
The overuse of bait alarms drives me mad and it’s one of the primary reasons I don’t fish day ticket waters very often. I will use one if I’m on an overnighter but certainly in daylight, unless I’m asleep for some reason, there’s no real purpose. I think some people like other people to hear...
That’s a cracking idea. Some years ago there was a swim I could of done with floating a bait down stream so there was no cast splash. This idea would of done the job.
That has a very useful look about it, Terry’s Persuader looks good but also looks like an invite from Mr Plod after some well meaning person reports your “zombie knife”.
Heading East the H.Avon is under 4 miles, the D.Stour is West just under 4.5 miles. So I don’t go far tbh.
I tend to visit the Wye for a day or two, which despite my intentions tends to be every other year. Ross on Wye is about 130/40 miles each way.
There’s bits you can night fish both. More options for this on the Stour. An RDAA membership with a night permit, would offer you night fishing on the Stour. I know some holiday anglers will fish the Avon till kick off then transfer to the Stour for the night.
