    Crap Reel handles.

Have had two handles part company on Daiwa black widow BR 5000A , both went, just at the pin joint whilst reeling in ,managed to put a older spare handle off a regal reel , but have not been impressed with quality of handles .

    Bait droppers

Still a big gap in the market for a long lived , well made baitdropper, my large Seymo is just about on its last legs, do use spods as well, wiil look into a spopper could save a lot of leg work .

    Tripod

Hello Steve, using a flat alloy bar with a 3 drilled holes, 1 to the middle to attach to the rest and a couple of nuts the same sized thread as the bite alarms no problem, the Salt has very stable alloy side bars, and the adjustable alloy bar has a good spike that will dig into most surfaces...

    Tripod

Salt tripod by Shakespeare, blue alloy with side bars, virtually indestructible rock solid and adjustable , make a flat bar for alarms or rod rests, also great for sea fishing, can hang useful items from the hook it has as well .

    Stupid weights

I am not one of those puddle anglers , the blanks and the odd nightmare session keep things in perspective, the last session I had looked like a blank, having caught buger all apart from someones old cruddy baitdropper, the a spirited 8lb 2oz barbel had a chomp .

    Target weights past and present

Yes a good double from the River Hull, or Yorkshire Derwent is usually a hard earned fish, although the a small river like the Dearne's have increased more I would say than its neighbour the larger river Don. My first river Calder barbel a few years ago meant just as much as my own Pb...

    Lost my mojo

Took a leaf out of a book called Fishermans year by John Holden first published in 1987, about being a all rounder fisherman dare I say it a pleasure angler.

    Which mono?

Hyper sensor for me l, used in 25lb for sea fishing as well gets slightly more distance as lower diameter.

    Lack of focus in fishing.

Moved to somewhere that had beach casting on the back doorstep, just as happy trotting a small stick float on a tiny river for small brown trout, easy to get stuck with barbel blinkers, same as Tench blinkers that I had a few years ago. Will try to enjoy next seasons barbel fishing after a...

    Recommended equipment

Gone for size 8 for next season , cheers Jon the others I got last season were as good as anything in a smart box that cost a £5.00 for about ten, the Aldi rod bag still going strong as well .

    Recommended equipment

Aldi's green retangle bag still going strong and a fraction of the price of your bigger brand names , the 3 Chinese reels I have , one bait runner , chunky bail arm loads of bearings good quality at a snip of a price , only bad bit can take a long time to deliver , but as in fishing patience...

    Closed Season Controversy

Some idiots target barbel on one small Yorkshire river directly on the gravel where they spawn . Have seen the crap left and banks dug out when observing some good barbel spawning during what still is the official closed season , Whilst barbel fishing has been a up hill battle this later part of...

how do you keep your Luncheon meat on ?

Always rated chilled plumrose ham and pork with a good halibut glug , spam is a bit softer, most are from the tulip company, there has been a shrinking in size with the tins over the last few years, used to put direct onto a long shank hook when fishing smaller rivers, but for the Trent...

    Grayling for the pot

Tastless Many years ago some raggie lads knocked on my aunties door in Thirsk stretched out a battered plastic bag , one of them said would you like to buy this fish for your cats it contained a good sized barbel, she did refuse, aren't barbel inedible for us two legged animals as well. No...

    Landing net woes

ABu garcia Have used the folding large net with a large blob of super glue to stop it folding . Nice shape and the front with a cord gap does not spook the fish while landing , strong but not heavy at all.
