Yes John plenty carp in the river, caught a few over the years, particularly early season before they wise up.I think I will leave the barbel alone on the Wavon this season, the numbers of big fish have dwindled significantly on many stretches,so I've joined a syndicate on the lower Severn that...
Gerry, you're the same age as my dad who unfortunately doesn't venture out fishing anymore due to lack of interest,it's nice to see you're enthusiasm shine through in your post.Good luck and tight lines mate, you'll probably smash that old PB by some considerable way,not that it really matters though.
Enterprise tackles fake grubs are far superior to some other ones I've tried, they seem to sit better if mounted on the hook than others, probably because they're very soft rubber. The casters however are better hair rigged
It seems that way Bill, having spoken to several tench anglers and having driven around the whole site myself.I phoned the bailiff last week and he advised me not to bother travelling and that's midweek!
Yes Bill I ventured down there last season a couple of times. Both times was tempted to drive straight back home, but having travelled 75 miles I just had to fish where I could get, instead of where I needed to be.It would seem the sponsored masses have the place sewn up,with social media having a...
I've not fished that particular venue Dave I was just wondering if it contained any bigger ones,I'm struggling at the moment to find a suitable venue that contains say an 8 plusser.I only started targeting tench last spring,so I've still a lot to learn, had plenty last season only upto 6 and a...
Checked just last week by the 'PONS'.A very pleasant experience, but then he's also not just a bailiff but a very experienced angler and knows the score. He's also a huge specimen,if he were a barbel I reckon he would go 30lb!!
Yes John,I've also encountered Stillwater barbel when I used to carp fish in puddles. They seemed to still fight well enough, but it just didn't seem right them being in there.A bit like lions, tigers etc kept in captivity
Paul,is it true the lower reaches of the Thames are swarming with Chinese mitten crabs. If true what would happen if they meet up with Ronnie and Reggie?
Very true Neil.Tony Miles mentioned in his book elite barbel such a scenario at Adams mill. How intensive fishing with HNV baits ballooned the already swollen fish, and kept them in a relatively small section of river.Towards the end the record fish Traveller should have been renamed Resident
No sympathy at all for you Paul.My days off since the start of the year have coincided with weekends(not fair to fish at weekends, due to family and don't want to compete with the weekend warriors)Most anglers are in my boat unfortunately with limited time available. As for waining enthusiasm I...
13 degrees air temp, overcast skies, occasional drizzle.Admittedly cool water temps....but even still.Sat indoors watching the Mrs graft......Jesus was definitely a barbel chaser!!
