    Perch

Over the last 6 months or so almost every perch a friend and I have caught from the Thames around Oxford has had the same marks on them (see below). We assumed they were down to predation (cormorants or otters?), but my friend was chatting to someone else who, to paraphrase, said ‘it’s viral and...

    Chub in the winter

Haha, I’m certainly claiming no IP, so please feel free! I’m sure I’m not the first or only person on here to do it. Like you say, very simple and I haven’t looked back since the first time I tried it! And congratulations on the 7lb Wye fish - that’s an absolutely beauty!! I know this is a...

    Chub in the winter

I’ve only had them to 6.11, but I’m on a quest for a 7lber! March is usually prime time, so will be trying my best. And no worries about the video idea, I was amazed at how well it works! Another low 6 from this week using the same camera technique:

    Chub in the winter

Well it’s a lovely fish irrespective of photography, congratulations! Incidentally, on the subject of photography, I’ve actually taken to just recording a video on my phone using a little grippa tripod attached to the back of chair and then taking still images from the video at a later point...

    Chub in the winter

Lovely colours, a real cracker! Surprised it was only worthy of a mat shot?! I’d have been proudly sat behind it with another goofy grin 😊

    Anyone using milks this winter?

Lob worms are brilliant in flood/ coloured water conditions and they are about as well camouflaged as a bait comes! All down to scent and smell (or the fish equivalent) in my opinion

    Chub in the winter

How’s the chub fishing going for everyone this year? Couldn’t believe I had to go back nearly two years to revive a chub thread!! Managed my first ‘6’ of the season yesterday, which was very welcome indeed. It’s been tough going with all the water on everywhere.

    Opinions on otters survey ....

Thanks for sharing Terry; I’ve just completed the survey

    Record Barbel

I’d love for my PB to be that big... but I wouldn’t be bothered about it being a national record, which I think is the difference and the point others are also making. I fish the Thames, so you never really know what’s going to turn up, but if I was fortunate enough to catch something that...

    Record Barbel

Are we really there yet? Does the title of ‘record holder’ really hold that much prestige? I don’t think so. Fair play to the captor and I don’t blame him for claiming the record. Am I going to start driving to the Arun in the hope of catching the same fish at 1oz more? Nope. Will others...

    Muckboot arctic sport

Own a pair and love them. Very warm and very comfortable. Admittedly, this is my first autumn in them, so can’t vouch for their performance in the coldest temperatures or their durability yet, but i’ve owned enough alternatives to have a fair idea and am very pleased with them

    Gloves for fishing

Discounted those based on some very poor reviews from friends. Presumably you’ve had a good experience though, Terry?

    Gloves for fishing

Just pulling this old thread back to the top... 3 years later and potentially some more/ different views? I’m looking for a new pair and GORE-TEX strikes me as the obvious choice for delivering the best combination of waterproof, windproof and breathable properties. Anyone own or have...

    Type of rig you use?

Interesting to hear the fairly consistent theme of 2ft+ hook links. I’ll use longer hook links for free running set-ups, but regularly only 12 - 18 inch links for semi-fixed bolt rigs, which seems to work pretty well for me. I just feel if i’m going with a bolt rig approach, I want it to take...

    Roach

Steady Neil, you'll have every Tom, Dick and Harry down there!! ;-) Below Cowbrige is controlled (rigorously) by Somerford Angling Association - or something like that. Very exclusive, by invitation only etc, etc. Stu

Hi Paul, I'm afraid you're not quite right about the Chub... they may not be in present in the same numbers as the Thames or Kennet, but they're definitely in there! They never really used to go to any size, but in the last few years a few bigger fish have started showing - no doubt linked the...

Hi Paul, How far up the avon are you talking? If you need any pointers around the Malmesbury area I can certainly help. Stu

    Lacking inspiration...

Oh don't fear Derek, I will definitely be fishing!! I just haven't been able to make my mind up what to target :) Thanks for the encouragement though, couldn't agree more with the sentiment

    Lacking inspiration...

Hi Paul, Thanks for your thoughts - they water park sounds like it might be a good option. Haven't fished over there for a few years now, which was when I had the ISIS book (and SCAC before that). Which waters are available on day ticket these days? I know that there have been some changes...
