Could be liners or as most say Chub. On the lower where Chub are a real pain I use long hook lengths try stop hooking chub . After a bit you know when to strike or not. On heavily fished waters on the middle the barbel are not stupid so find right balance is right
On was on the middle few weeks ago when it was on the rise. It was just starting to come up and I caught went next day and came right up I blank along with a few others but few days later when it was dropping it fished well. Timing is the main part . I'm lucky middle only 30 mins from me...
I use korum xpect rods Paul and they are brilliant rods got 2 in 2lb and 2 1.75 which I just brought one on ebay for £35 last week . . I've got a pair of torriox but they not cheap

Going to sound out of order But I hope few barbel go belly up. Might stop some of the crap I'm reading on some pages. Like everything else we learn when it's to late
You would think that barbel is the only fish out there after some of the stuff I'm reading. If conditions are good for barbel I would fish for them but they not so I fish for something else. Is it cause barbel easy to catch you think?
Each to there own but I can't think of nothing worse fishing for barbel in these conditions. Severn is a big river and I've seen loads of barbel belly up in these conditions. I look on a certain Facebook page on the Severn and can't get my round photo of small size barbel on there taken...
