    Buying waste lead - prices

I can see where you are coming from on that Steve. I have knocked up 20 feeders & it took me a while. Granted, I got quicker towards the end slowly streamlining the making of each part, working out best approach, trying to find old tools, realising I need to buy a couple of tools & eventually...

    Buying waste lead - prices

Hi Jason, Big advantage to machining your own moulds - the ones I have just bought are good but I can already see a few improvements that I would make if I could. Made a few up this afternoon & what little lead remnants I had got quickly exhausted with 4lb of lead - tho the other way of looking...

    cormorants

Good worked example there Adrian & balanced point of view. I used to work with the EA & such examples are to be seen all over UK & Europe - even to extent of mass exterminations & in a small amount of time niches opened are refilled.

    Buying waste lead - prices

Just come back from one of my local (scrap) metal merchants. He buys at 75 pence per kilo & sells at £1.10 no matter the quantities that we deal in. The only thing was that due to commodities crashing this week, he emptied all his stock just as prices dropped so there was none in his yard for...

    Buying waste lead - prices

Fair comment Paul, that's what the end of week weigh in's about is the Friday afternoon drink till one drops, and if sponsored on the weeks collections all the better. How it should be! Yup - 5.35oz (150g) or the 6.1oz (170g) packed takes a fair hurl. Need a slightly unconventional river rod...

    Buying waste lead - prices

Very true - its what I did before. Got a cheap ladle especially for this de-scumming to allow the clean pour. The whole idea for me is about cheapness (hopefully this statement does not reflect character!!) but I will certainly be looking at a range of different qualities at (hopefully) more or...

    Pellet Quality

Some good feedback so far. For drilling baits I found that the fresher, the less brittle. Concur with drilling from both sides & especially on pulling out the drill to clean the end. Not used pellets fora couple of seasons now but used to use a fine MCF bait drill that I could roll quickly...

    Buying waste lead - prices

A big thanks to all for the responses made - all angles on this covered by the looks of things: Cost of new, offcuts, reclaimed & possible sources. As Matthew said, the previous scap metal merchants took my car reg upon buying (5kg) tho cannot remember the price (nice one for the resell price)...

Rig bits/terminal tackle: Cheap/bulk online recommendations

Thanks for all the input from everyone on this - a bit new to ebay only making my first purchase the other day with the lead mould. With the above I have plenty to go at especially with the generous offer from Tom. Thanks for that. Cheers, Jon

    Buying waste lead - prices

Dear all, I have just bought my first lead mould to make some feeders & would be grateful of some advice on present prices per kg of waste lead. I appreciate that prices go up & down but on the last time I borrowed a mould & went into a scrap merchants I was unsure & doubtful of the price...

Rig bits/terminal tackle: Cheap/bulk online recommendations

Dear All, I am looking for a few online site recommendations that sell bulk (100-200 or more buying in with friends if needs be) quantities of terminal tackle. From time to time I get a few bits in but am always finding that I would like a 'stocked pantry' of rubber beads, swivels, quick...

    cormorants

Good point there Chris. Fished the tidal a couple of weeks back & early morning a flock of at least 60-70 birds came down. They usually spook quite easily but this lot was very bold seemingly unperturbed by my presence & clapping. Confidence in numbers...

    Stewed wheat

Had quite a few carp in the distant past over wheat. Used in conjunction with other ground bait bulking agents like vitalin & pigeon conditioner, as well as hemp, for a cheap plentiful base.

a gallon of hemp on the kitchen floor

Jon, your too organised - don't know how you do it or muster the energy so... I presoak the hemp but it still comes into the kitchen to finish it off - I did it before so will still do it now. I wonder how long that'll be before the next compromise. Another bait spillage - a big bag of dry...

a gallon of hemp on the kitchen floor

Lucky lad - life for me would be so much more simple. No considerations nor obligations... Makes me wonder sometimes...

a gallon of hemp on the kitchen floor

Jason, drives me nuts that my mrs moans about using her pans for hemp too. The hemp is soaked & its just akin to boiling rice, pulses, etc. What's the difference? She complains about the smell from the bait & then brings in her mangy dog wet from being walked. Jesus!!

a gallon of hemp on the kitchen floor

Feel for you Neil. It's the compounded grief I'd get from the Mrs too & that a blemish on the opposite side of the kitchen is hemp spillage related ie just a ploy to end up with a kitchen scrubbed from top to bottom. Not necessarily bait related - I have a multi compartment box containing...

Hooks - Nearly as dear as a Gallon

Some good posts here. Have been using SS until recently - was previously getting thru many hooks in a session & consequently losing a few too. I will not be using SS again for Trent ledgering again. Agree on the price aspect too. Cheers, Jon
