    BFW server upgrade

 That would be why I can't find the thread about my 18lb barbel on the last day of the season! :D

Line deterioration on Berkley Big Game

Here's a couple of better pics from Ebay. They all say made in Japan, so I suspect it is a genuine product but made for the Japanese market ... and maybe of lesser quality (which is why it is cheap). If it was just fake Berkley, it would probably say Made in USA to copy the American stuff. And...

Line deterioration on Berkley Big Game

I don't know how I'd tell if it's genuine, I'll have a closer look when I get home. I bought it on Ebay, the seller is still selling it (see here) and glancing at his feedback, I'd say he sells a lot of it. But I did notice that the listing says Made in Japan — whereas the lo-vis green line...

Line deterioration on Berkley Big Game

Just to add, in case it's useful to somebody, I also tested some hook length material while I was in testing mode: Ultima Power Plus 10lb 28mm: broke at 10lb Ultima Power Steel 10lb 29mm: broke at 13lb Interesting results I thought.

Line deterioration on Berkley Big Game

Having been broken twice recently above the lead, I spent some time at the weekend checking the line with an old spring balance. I'm using Big Game Clear in 10lb and a piece of unused line fresh from the original bulk spool broke at over 12lbs — about as expected from reports elsewhere...

    Reflections of your season.

Had a poor summer but an excellent autumn, fishing the Lower Severn for the first time. Caught plenty of good barbel including three 10s and two 11s :) Happy memories of Deano's BFW Charity Fish-in (though some of my memories of the pub afterwards are a little hazy;))

Anyone thought "JUST GO FISHING"? rather than moan too much!

Sounds to me like you are moaning and criticising yourself, Mark ;):D Nice to read your fishing reports though, I always enjoy reading about what others are up to :)

    BFW Grayling Fish-In

A six-hour round trip (thanks for driving, Pete) for a handfull of grayling might seem extreme, but it was worth it for another excellent BFW gathering. Like Crooky, I have a dodgy back so trotting with the pin was excruciating, but I don't get to do it very often and it was very enjoyable...

    BFW Grayling Fish-In

Just noticed there are 3 stretches there, Bridge Farm, Rectory Farm and Old River. Are we just on the Bridge Farm stretch or can we fish any of them? I only ask now in case we are late and miss the meet up.

    BFW Grayling Fish-In

I've not been 100% sure about whether I could get the time off, but I'm now able to come along (subject to finishing my current project today!). I'd have liked to have stayed overnight but need to get back, but I've no doubt I'll manage an hour or two in the pub afterwards. ;) Looking forward...

    Digital thermometer at Lidl

I needed to pop into Lidl at the weekend to buy some batteries so I thought I'd give this a try. I wasn't expecting anything great but it seems to do the job. I took it chubbing with me, but left it in the car (doh!) so I haven't tried it in the river - but it did work in the bath. I've got an...

    Korum Seamless Hooks

Anybody know why they are being discontinued? My guess is manufacturing/supply problems, I can't imagine them withdrawing them because sales are poor as it leaves a big hole in their range.

    Frenzy.

    Introducing myself

Hi Matthew, welcome to the madhouse! It's always quieter at this time of year for obvious reasons, but keep an eye on the River Reports section, that's where you'll find the local knowledge. You're certainly live in the right place for barbel! I fish the Severn (middle and lower) and...

    Flask?

Andy, you really need to lighten up and get off your high horse!!! Feel free to ignore threads, it's not like there are hundreds of threads every day on here. When I first got back into fishing, I borrowed a flask from my Mum, a cheap one she bought at a services. In cold weather, the tea...

    First Barbel Bliss !

Well done, Darren. Did you do anything differently after last weeks thread, or was it about gaining the confidence to keep doing what you were doing?

    Confidence Boost

Don't forget to keep an eye on the temperature. No point in trying to catch your first barbel when the water is 5C and falling.

    BFW Grayling Fish-In

Nathan, from your earlier posts, I'm working on the assumption that there are no 'reserved places', we just turn up on the day, and pay on the bank. Is that correct? p.s. Sorry to hear about your gear. I believe you can buy quite cheap garage alarms which may help in the future.

Is this the video you mean? www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5RZMGegMEg Or am I getting confused?
