    muck boots

That's a very good point. Have a look at the Muckboots website, the photos show the soles, you want the ones with chucky climbing-boots style soles.

    muck boots

I'm a 10 (albeit a big 10) and I found the 10 was a little tight so I went up to an 11. I have to wear thick socks with the 11 though.

    Winter Suits

Out of interest, David, what's wrong with the jacket? Does it leak?

    Barbel beginnings?

It was Steve Williams' fault! I'd recently got back into fishing after a break that must have been getting on for 20 years. I'd had a few days out on a stillwater with my cousin Tom, fishing for Pike and Roach. Tom gave me a call one day — his fellow coach in his kids footie team had...

    Shaping Luncheon Meat

I tear my cubes rather than cutting so they're fairly irregular anyway. I scrape any sharp edges with a baiting needle, potato peeler style, then I use the end of the needle to rough up any smooth sides. And everytime I do it I wonder if it's really necessary. Especially when I'm using garlic...

    Winter Suits

Gary, it's worth making sure either the waterproof layer or the layer underneath is windproof. Most gear isn't (especially fishing gear), and it's not much fun when a biting wind goes straight through you!

    Tackle insurance

I added my tackle as a named item to my home insurance. I couldn't tell you exactly what it covers, but it costs me nothing extra. I did the same for my smart phone.

    Korum roving kit

I think the whole point of this is that it's NOT a shoulder bag. The bag slots into the legs of the chair so the chair + bag become a single rucksack. Quite ingenious really. I like the idea and a big thumbs up to korum for trying to be imaginative. Personally I use a Korum Ruckbag with my...

    Bleak

I was disappointed to see that there is no thread for that noble fish of the rivers, the Bleak. So here it is, the BFW bleak thread. :) I had a very enjoyable few hours trotting for the little chaps on the River Severn at the weekend. One of them was not so little and is definitely a new PB...

    Neil saved me

Alex, with modern cars, using your car to jump another car can potentially damage the engine management systems unless you follow the right procedure — and few seem to know the right procedure! Personally, I probably wouldn't have let you use my car, but I'd have happily lent you my phone to...

    Great Ebay/Internet deals deals.....

I thought that was a bit of an odd one and the time. Why would you want TWO stalking rods? One in each hand?

    landing net

From the BFW review pages: https://barbel.co.uk/site/vbulletin/forum/accessories/6481-gardner-net-extendable-landing-net-pole.html I have one and I'm very happy with it

    Korum Waterproof Bib'n'brace

David, I don't have a wife so I can get away with anything :p I have heard of residue probelms with Nikwax. I think it's to do with very hard water, especially with a top loading machine, but pretty rare. Personally, I've had no problems with it, and I live in a hard water area. I use TechWash...

    Korum Waterproof Bib'n'brace

Just thought I'd add that the Dryfish suit cost me about £160! But I don't have a lot faith in cheap waterproofs.

    Korum Waterproof Bib'n'brace

I have a Preston Dryfish suit, and it's been brilliant. It's a tough suit, I bash my way through bramble-infested undergroth, slither down steep muddy banks, and get caught out in terrential rainstorms. Being a Severn anglers, it's regularly coated in mud, and I have a habit of wiping my hands...

Steve Williams (Scuba Steve) - Reel Angling Hero

Really sorry to hear about Ben, Steve. I'm glad he's okay and hope they get it properly under control. Must have been pretty terrifying at the time.

Nice one Steve, that's a cracking fish!

    barbel sculpting

A good sculpture can reveal more than a photo ... so yes she does need to see some real barbel to get the feel for them if she's going to capture it effectively. Thanks Mark, this should be a really interesting thread, I for one will be keeping an eye on it.

Can anyone recommend me a brolly?

Colin, when I'm into a barbel I want to be focusing on getting it under control and keeping it out of the nearest snag (with both hands) ... not worrying about getting the brolly down with one hand. An interesting idea, but not for me :)
