I personally think that the Drennan SS Handle is bomb proof and I’ve had mine for years with regular use. Following every dozen or so sessions I do the following:
1, Remove the internal pole and wipe both it and the internal mechanism down with hot soapy water.
2, Wet a couple of pieces of...
I'm going to withdraw my assumed criticism of these rods. Had a waggle in the tackle shop yesterday and on the face of it they appear ok, and especially the heaver version. Drennan seem to have changed the lacquer coating on their specialist rods too, as it appears to be a lot smoother and less...
Summer work on the Severn with 1.5 and 1.75 TC rods, Shimano 4000D. Heavier work with flood rod 6000D.
One of my 4000D’s is pushing 14 years old. Quality bomb proof reel, if you look after them 👍🏻
That metallic blue fish is not the best, but trust me, the rods fish playing action is awesome. Perfect for those snaggy swims, without being over gunned. I was so impressed with it, I also bought the 11ft medium feeder rod for Perch fishing 👍🏻
Get a Drennan Vertex 11ft Carp Feeder Rod, it’s the best Chub quiver rod that I’ve ever owned and I’ve had a few over the years. My local tackle shop was selling them off cheap, as apparently the whole Vertex range is a poor seller, as everyone wants Acolytes.
I was so impressed with it, I...
Mentioned on another thread. I have real issues with Drennan’s specialist range of rods. The green lacquer finish, is supposed to make them look like the original specialist range of rods from 25 years ago i.e. the legendary Super Specialist Duo rods.
In reality I found the lacquer will scratch...
I’ve got this one:

Small and compact, cuts through ranunculus with ease. No blade guard and dry it after use or it will corrode.
Not sure how reliable the information is, but I’m sure I’ve read on here previously that some tackle shops have spare bushes from Drennan, due to perceived issues with the handle bush?
Re the new Barbel rods, I hope the quality and finish in better than the other specialist rods in the range e.g. the latest specialist duo. I really do think Drennan have let themselves down with these rods.
I’m late to the party on the thread. I own an 11ft GTI, it’s a nice rod, but if you find yourself in a near bank hit and hold situation, it can get a bit hairy, even with low doubles, to the point that I feel it’s hitting it limits.
I have previously owned a 12ft GTI and currently own a pair of...
The Drennan Ultralight Bomb Rod is an amazing rod and a real joy to use. I have the 10’ to 11’ version, which I use for Perch fishing. Despite being a true finesse rod, I’ve landed plenty of bonus Chub to over 5lb and a few Barbel to over 8lb, both of which took a liking to lob worms.
I’ve been thinking for a while now and after watching several Korum product release bundles that they are designing stuff, which just has no real and logical application purpose.
The folding bait waiter is a classic example. Instead I just place my bomb proof Drennan bait waiter through the...
You can effectively still buy one, by asking your local tackle dealer to order it as spare sections. Within the last year, a mate broke his butt section and ordered a replacement.
Ended up buying a pair of these and seem ok for the money with good line lay:

Don’t think I’d spend £90 to £100 per reel however, as some outlets are selling them for.
I’ll be using them on light quiver rods for...
