Fish killer - a surprising culprit, you say?

Fish killer - a surprising culprit, you say?

Howard nothing wrong at all in what you are saying but mutual dependency in a food chain begins at the first trophic level ie photosynthesisers and without these the whole food chain is in serious trouble. So if we, and it is humans, have significantly effected this in rivers, and we have via...

Fish killer - a surprising culprit, you say?

Craig - precisely, even with the majority they have the Tories are not stupid re such issues and will not waste Parliamentary time on hunting never mind otters. The only chance of any change in the law as i see it is if otters begin to do significant damage to farmers' livelihoods and this could...

Fish killer - a surprising culprit, you say?

As someone who used to teach about water - the article is not surprising. Over 30 years ago i recall teaching about a possible future where wars would be about water (not oil which at the time everyone was het up about). The article hits the nub of the issue - it is about water supply and river...

Fish killer - a surprising culprit, you say?

What i am struggling with is this halcyon past when rivers were in a so called better state...40 years ago fishing in Yorkshire certain rivers were unfishable eg the Don, the Calder was not much better or the Aire in Leeds - these are all so much better now. If we are talking of 10-20 years ago...

Fish killer - a surprising culprit, you say?

Dave Where is your evidence that this is solely down to otters - i fish in the upper Thames catchment and have never seen an otter or a dead fish that looks like it has been killed by one, anglers i speak to haven't either...but the barbel stocks are down. May be there is a cycle, as silver...

    Drennan rods

Not going to ditch the rod and may just use the pins for legering, could be just an excuse to buy another rod of course :D Odd that many of the newer rods have such a small fitting...I do prefer the old reel fits rather than the Fuji seats. Thanks for the link Andy. Not sure I want to change...

    Drennan rods

Does anyone know if the reel seats on Drennan float rods are all the same size? I ask as 1. I cannot find a contact on their website 2. The reel seat on the tench specimen rod I have is not large enough for my Speedia or Grice and Young centre pins so need a new barbel float rod. Thanks

    Waterproof trousers

David - a lot of the hunting gear has folks sitting in chairs in the trees in snow...i have no problem sitting in mine...cold after a while but not wet, better than goretex in my view...also i have found the size is generally a fit and in fact i have sent jackets back as they have been too big...

    Britain's biggest barbel...

Even when it's been a fish a chuck, personally I've struggled to catch more than four an hour once playing and resting has been taken into account. Bloody hell i am lucky to get that in a season :D

    Britain's biggest barbel...

Neil from where i am sat in the Thames valley some rivers still appear to be in the halcyon period eg Dove, Derwent, Wye (or is this just the Facebook phenomena)...which brings me back to the point about cycles, these will not last forever. However, i do think there are some rivers in which...

    Britain's biggest barbel...

Given our concerns about cormorants over the years and recent floods - where has recent silver fish boom come from as there were surely, or so we were all claiming, much fewer fish...On the Thames trib that i fish the large 5lb plus chub appear to have disappeared since the 2013/14 floods...the...
