When I first moved up to Norfolk 20 odd years ago I used to frequent a "Country Auction". It was hilarious. The stuff that sold....forks with tines missing, buckets with holes in the bottom, wooden fence posts riddled with worm!! I confess to buying some rubbish myself just because it was cheap...
Oh dear. I've just read the hammer prices of the items sold at the Perth Auction yesterday. Some buyers got real bargains! There were boxes of books selling for a fiver! 🤨 Hardy rods for £30! Obviously no idea of condition, but if these items were being sold in London they would have fetched...
I can sympathise Tim. All those years ago when I visited the auctions in Hammersmith I sat mesmerised by the prices achieved. Some guy told me that one of telephone bidders was Roger Daltrey (he of The Who) and suggested that I don't even bother to bid as if RD wanted it badly enough, he would...
I used to frequent Angling Auctions in Hammersmith years ago. I found that some items appeared to have low values set BUT these are designed to draw bids. Many items have (undisclosed) reserve prices on them. The auctioneer will take bids but not necessarily accept them in an attempt to drive...
Since my "youth" many many years ago, I have tended to explore all disciplines of angling. Struggled with sea fishing so concentrated on coarse and game. This type of auction appeals to anglers like myself who struggle to concentrate on just one "discipline "!
Just taken a good long look at the on-line catalogue. Can't believe the amount and quality of gear being sold!!! Take a look, you won't be disappointed!
Next time you get moaned at for "too much fishing tackle", just quote this one guys collection going under the hammer next Tuesday at Perth Auction House. One of the biggest privately owned collections of fishing tackle ever sold.
A member of our local angling club, of which I am Secretary, kindly donated some tackle to be sold to help club funds.
Amongst the boxes of gear were several old reels. They are not in the best of conditions but I was wondering if anyone on this forum can identify them? Do they have any value?
I used to love watching Jack Hargreaves in my youth.
Have you realised that both Jack H and Mr Crabtree smoked pipes? I'm going to get me one and see if that's the answer to successful fishing!!
😂😂
SNAP! I too have a book just out "Reeling Back the Years" relating tales from a lifetime of fishing! Also available on Amazon and on order from all good bookshops!
I'll have to buy your book Paul and compare our adventures! In fairness mine are more akin to mishaps! 😂
On reflection I think you guys are right...maybe it's a bit of kit I don't need. Along with about 20 rods (many duplicated) same number of reels and goodness knows how much terminal gear!!
I can't be the only one... surely? 😂😂
Have any of you purchased the Daiwa N'ZON Feeder Bag, the one with the front opening that holds 3 x tackle boxes? I enjoy all types of fishing and only make up my mind what method to try "on the day". I could go trotting, feeder fishing, lure/dropshotting etc etc. After I have decided I then...
Hi Mike. Like you, I am intrigued by this subject. I make mention of this in my book "Reeling Back the Years" (available on Amazon & all good bookshops!!) Seriously, I saw what I believe was a big cat in rural Norfolk some years ago when driving back home from a fishing match. It was dusk and my...
