    Harrison Advanced Rods

    Potentially also a standard specialist.

    Harrison Advanced Rods

Well you wouldn’t on purpose, all I’m saying is that a factory build is a fairly generic spec that most people will find little serious fault with in use. Where as, it is possible to buy a used custom built rod off eBay and (if you don’t ask questions or the description is vague) not find out...

    Harrison Advanced Rods

At the same time you probably won’t go far wrong with a factory build, where as you could definately buy a second hand custom made and find it’s not well suited.

    Lightweight quiver and backpack.

I got it after peoples recommendations on here. Personally I find it fine with a pair of ss2600s and specialist rods. Great bit of kit and good value to go with it. If I was a bit more flush at the moment I would probably also have 3 and just be using them for everything.

    Graham Phillips Barbel Rod

I almost did myself out of a 12lber the first time I used my cheap digitals earlier in the season, just imagine 😂

    Graham Phillips Barbel Rod

In 11ft I assume? I can't find reference to this one.

Thank you, so it sounds like another instance of confusion with percentages and lbs and ozs.

    Graham Phillips Barbel Rod

Just to clarify some long standing avon style confusion on my part... Is there a Chimera Avon 1.25lb (1lb 4oz) and a Chimera Avon 1.4lb (~1lb 6oz)? I have seen both mentioned and have often wondered if 1.4lb is actually 1lb 4oz. It is easy to find information on the 1lb 4oz/ 1.25lb rod but...

    Acolyte users??

Thank you, I think that is how I would have gone about it but good to have some confirmation for when it happens.

    Acolyte users??

Richard, not having much experience of fish at that size or in that situation I’m genuinely interested how you play them. I’m aware you use a pin for the float fishing so is it hit and hold from the start, giving very hard won line when you feel you can? What strength line are you using? I’ve...

    Boilie favourites/recommendations?

So it really is one step off bread crumb, fish do seem to love it but they also like live system which is much cheaper.

    Harrison Chimera 3’s

I’ve got a couple of Dave Bone made rods and they’re just as nice as my Dave Lumb builds.

    Harrison Chimera 3’s

Not sure what spec they are but you can order a new pair cheaper than that I think. Dave Bone had one on facebook the other day for £280, which was a standard build but looked very nice.

    Boilie favourites/recommendations?

I used to use Source and liked it. When I've used boiles recently it's been Trent Baits Freshwater Shrimp as that's what I've have for carp fishing. Initially I wasn't completely convinced on it for barbel but my confidence in it is steadily growing. They've caught me fish on my first visit to a...

Small/ medium river fishing - wait or rove

Interesting thoughts, I guess there are innumerable variables but it’s always good to hear other people’s methods.

    Oiling a cork handle

I had a fox pike rod years ago that had a fake cork handle made of rubbery plastic 😂 the rod was alright though to be fair.

    Oiling a cork handle

I’ve got no problem with anyone else doing it, but the idea of fishing with the plastic still on the handle makes me feel a bit like chalk on a blackboard.

    Oiling a cork handle

I don’t mind a tired look but perhaps a very fine sand instead?

    11ft 2lb Torrix

Compared to a more through actioned rod I found it much nicer for wallis casting a 2oz lead and little pva bag. The crispness certainly helped. It has a lovely feel and sensitive bite indication. I think it will take a bit of getting used to how it bends in the middle third but I’m certainly...
