    What's this spike for please?

As others have said it looks like a bank stick/hole excavator with an auger point for rock hard ground, with the hole at the top for a T-bar to crank it round and get more force. JAG excavator bank sticks are a similar setup for carp (I have them)

    Kingpin zeppelin 475 mk1….sold

Beautiful reel, if I hadn't just paid for a Triton I would have snapped it up.

    Your angling journey.

I started when I was about six years old I think, my dad was a keen angler and took me down to the grand union at tring station for an afternoon as I was being a pain (at least that's what they've told me haha). I caught a perch, a gudgeon and a roach and that was me hooked. I fished with my dad...

So I’ve got a little range of bolo floats.

I would love to give one of those a go on the Thames at some point :) Wire stemmed bolo floats are always something I’ve struggled to find, I’ve got the DH carbon ones but no alloy.

    Acolyte users??

I have a 15ft acolyte plus which I find a joy to use, not broken a tip on it so far. I also have a cadence cr10 no.3 which is a nice power (ish) float rod and although it’s not as good action wise as the acolyte it feels a bit more powerful to me, no idea if it is in reality, the specs are...

As others have said, you cant stop the trout... if you go in with the mindset that the trout will get there first it changes your perspective. The one trick you can try to maybe reduce the trout though is if they start hitting your rig every trot through then loose feed a little further upstream...

    Boilie Flavours

Ha Ha I have NB acid in the shed too, along with a load of old richworth flavours like honey yucatan. I thought I would email John baker this morning about my pellet query and he agreed that what would work would be to mix 10ml of flavour into 250ml of water and spray pellets with it, let them...

    Boilie Flavours

Is that the maple cream/caramel type one? I wondered if you could flavour pellets with it, or if it would be too potent.

    Bad barbel pics

I’ve not yet caught one, but I think I’ll stick to mat shots if I get a bite! 😬

    Xmas pressy

Some more books for the collection, mostly carp related as I collect them (gaz fareham, tom bankes 2nd book and beyond the green gate/hiding in the long grass by Stuart Brookes) however I also got the little Big Barbel, Chub, Tench and Perch tactics books by Tony Miles, and Elite Barbel by him...

    Angling crossroads.

I do a lot of carping and I echo what others have said, look for a club ticket that has a few stillwaters rather than head to an expensive and busy day ticket. I love my carping but it’s very easy to get stuck waiting and not really doing anything, so if I was you I certainly wouldn’t disregard...

    Hi everyone

Thanks everyone. I’ve sorted myself out a 2.25 powermesh so if it arrives in time I will get my first trip with it later this week/at the weekend. Decent weather this week so hopefully the river will be slightly less angry by then, but still angry enough.

    Hi everyone

Thanks guys. I agree with you that I probably need a step up, the more I think about it the more it makes obvious sense because of the size and power of the river when there’s extra water on. Better to have it if needed than wish I did and miss out on a chance of a special fish like a barbel.

    Hi everyone

Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum although I’ve been lurking on parts of it for a while. I’m just about to target my first barbel from the Thames in and around the oxford area having previously only fished for them now and again on the Ouse in bucks. I’ve been fishing the Thames for silvers all...
