    Ever Catch Small Barbel?

Babies Hi All, Tried a coup[le of times this year to catch tiddlers and Gudgeon on the Loddon, trotted the ford on the Old River at Lands End which is less than 1ft-caught lots of Dace, and eventually caught a 6oz Billy-was well made up. Though on the main river a fish below 8lbs is rare...

    Wanted Drennan Power Barbel Top?

Drennan Hi Clive, I did, and was directed through to a local dealer, regardless of the fact that the rod was found-there was no interest in replacing the top direct-even for a small charge. Cheers DT

    Wanted Drennan Power Barbel Top?

Bit of a long shot here-after a 1.75lb/2.lb top for a 12ft Drennan Power Barbel Specialist(twin tip rod). Found the rod whilst las tfishing, although the top section was broken (hence it was chucked away), if anyone has a spare top-would be a great result! More in hope than expectation dave

    Tethered Fish

Would have to say, I have never seen any damage caused by using barbless hooks in any fishes mouth that I have caught-once the fish is hooked, the bend is where all the pressure is-this pressure is constant-the same for barbed/barbless, again I simply do not see damage to a fishes mouth. Again...

    Tethered Fish

If you use barbless hooks you eliminate the risk of tethering completely, periodically I remove hooks from fish caught trailing line and tackle, one fish had 3 hooks in its mouth-all barbed. Cheers DT

    Barbel Rod Survey 2012

12ft 1.75 Torrix, responsive, and can handle almost anything swimming-made very short work of a 17lb river carp, and on the other extreme playing smaller fish is still enjoyable. Cheers DT

    whats your pb barbel???

PB Barbel This season I have set myself a target of catching the smallest Barbel I can! The last small Barbel I caught was a 8oz from the Teme 5 years ago. I am going to fish the Loddon on a very shallow 100 yd bit, and a small side shoot, with float and maggots to see if I can catch a...

    New rods for new season

Rods Hi Craig, All of the above rods are spot on, if you have a budget of £150-200, try getting a harrison blank based single rod-Yately Angling Centre do a good no thrills harrison at £170 I think, and then the rods on this site start at £200, its a lot of money-but worth it if you fish...

    Hooks

Hi Chris, To echo Bill's point above, if it ain't broke don't fix it-why are you looking for an alternative? Is there anything specifically that has happened for you to look for new hooks? For what its worth I use ESP Raptor wide gapes, size 10 barbless-not lost a barbel for 2 seasons, though...

Stranded Carpand Bream Upton Ham Meadows River Severn

Fish Stranded Thanks Keith, To answer a few questions- The small section we first got to had maybe 30 carp, mainly mirrors, the biggest over 35lb (see pic at start of the thread) the pic does not do it justice (though Col is a big bit of kit so will make most fish look small!), we moved or...

Stranded Carpand Bream Upton Ham Meadows River Severn

Fish Stranded To be fair-my Old Man and Old Dear, plus their neighbours have done a lot more! They were out at 6.00am this mrning rescuing fish-the OM is 74 and recovering from radiotherapy, and the OD is 68, and the neighbours drew attention to the fish. All well that end well! DT

Stranded Carpand Bream Upton Ham Meadows River Severn

Hi All, Need a bit of help-have been out all afternoon netting carp and bream from the Ham meadows at Upton upon Severn-we have got 10 carp out to 35lbs and numerous Bream out and put them back in the river-there are still 20+ plus carp, and 100+ bream, we have tried to contact the EA, as water...

    YAC 1-3/4 specialist rod

Yately Hi Chris, The Yately rod is based on a Harrison blank (99% certain) and is a cracking rod-picked up the 12ft 1.75 and it is very similar to Trefor Wests rod (probably not as quick in action), it is unfussy in looks, but very well put together-will be ordering a 11ft 1.75 off them for...

    Hummingbird smartcast

New Stretch Hi Darren, The rod held smartcasts are good for finding the depth on new stretches, and give a good indication of drop offs/holes and depth changes-worth the money if you are fishing large rivers with lower densities of Barbel and you need to find features. Leading around is also...
