Those thinking of fishing at Ross this weekend

For those that are thinking of travelling down the M50 to Ross this weekend, try an alternative route as its closed all weekend. I believe that the 2yr motorway works involves totally closing it occasionally for the bridge repairs. Having been caught out myself a couple of times on the night...

    Aldi bib n brace

Just bought a pair of the camo salupettes, seem on the face of it to be good value, time will tell. Must be selling quick as only 1 pair of mediums left. I was told if they don't fit take them back with a receipt and get your money back.

Peregrine Specialist Floodwater Barbel Rod Mk II - 11'9" 2 Piece

Super rods for flood conditions if you're using heavy feeders and leads. I've one of the originals and the follow on version. both very similar. Build quality is right up there with the best. You will be surprised at the sensitivity of the tip, even in a heavy flood the smallest of chub pulls...

    Trefor West barbel rod offer

I see on the 'Lone Angler' site that there's an offer on the last few remaining Trefor West barbel rods, a free landing net pole with every rod. Having used these rods and the landing net pole for a number of years i personally think that you're not going to get any better bits of kit. Not...

    EBay bargain Derbyshire

If your'e looking for a decent landing net pole then look no further than the ''Lone Angler'' site as this is stuff that Trefor approves of and uses himself. I've had mine 2 1/2 yrs and its like new. Landed in excess of 400 fish with it. Stood on and beat down himalayan balsam with it, great...

    New E.A river level website

Having logged on to the EA river level site i was informed that the page has changed. And what a load of PONY AND TRAP it is now. No specific river height is given just a pretty blue picture with no specific heights as the old one had. This is obviously what they call progress. No mention...

    boots for muddy banks

    boots for muddy banks

A lot of talk about what boot for muddy banks. The boots are immaterial, you need crampons attached to' any' boot. This will see you going up and down the most slippery of terrain like a mountain goat. All my mates who have invested in crampons can't believe how much difference it makes...

    Sourcing Hemp

I got a sack from the pet supplies shop in Hereford, road the runs parallel with the railway. Paid £15 if memory serves me. The fella who runs it is a barbel angler. Splits easily and seems good quality.

    Your favourite barbel reel

As previously said , it all depends on what type of river you're fishing and what you want out of a reel. About 15yrs back all i would use were Speedias or Trudex's. However, a friend in the trade persuaded me to buy a Abu Suveran 4000m, as an engineer well as being in the tackle trade since he...

    Bass Pro Excel R.I.P

Having read the negative posts regarding this line i decided to test my 12lb line that i purchased from the Lone Angler site about six weeks ago. It broke at 16lb!!!!! Ive been using it regularly on the Teme and the Wye, both of which are tackle testers, and been as impressed with it as i...

    Moving house for a barbel?

I had a similar idea when i retired 4 yrs ago. However the financial crisis curtailed the housing market. Then last july we sold the house in essex and lived in rented accommodation in the ross-on-wye area. It tends to focus the mind more when you're homeless.!! We eventually bought a house in...

    replacement net for whitlock spoon

Many thanks for that Ian, I spoke to them yesterday. It appears that they have a woman who will make a net to suit,i.e. mesh size and dimensions to fit fame and depth. The only problem is that its cream in colour. They do say that you can dye whatever colour you want with Dylon. Order is in...

    replacement net for whitlock spoon

Thanks for the replies fellas, its fairly obvious that the manufacturers want you to buy a new net and frame, and as such don't supply the net alone. I think i'll enrol in a local crochet class, during the close season , and knit my own. I refuse to buy **** just because it's endorsed by a name!!!
