Whatever line you choose please make sure it's a good strength. I use 45lb braid and the reason for using such strong line has nothing at all to do with landing fish. If I get hooked up on a snag then the hook will straighten before the line breaks and I won't leave a bait in the water with...
The river was fairly clear but had been flushed through with a bit of rain so wasn't in a terrible state. I fished from first light all the way through until dark and actually it was the low-light conditions that produced the fewest fish for some reason. As far as the Dace were concerned they...
Hemp and Tares didn't work..... Not a bite.
Bread worked, mainly for the trout, but also for Chub, Bream (!), Dace but alas, no Roach. Sweetcorn was less effective but stayed in the water longer than bread so at least you stood a chance.
Feeder fishing with mash in the feeder and flake on...
Definitely going to bring a feeder rod with that in mind. My concern is that it's small stretch that only sees coarse anglers very occasionally and in my experience trout can be ludicrously suicidal on bread-flake and (to a lesser degree) sweetcorn.
What sort of hook size and pattern would...
I've got the chance to fish a stretch of a chalk stream that's reputed to hold some decent Roach. It's quite fast flowing water and there are lots of little sluices and weirs, and it's also rammed full of trout. The only slight problem is that I'm only allowed to use 'vegetable' baits - i.e. no...
The K&A in between Limpley Stoke and Dundas used to have some lovely Perch in it. There was a spot in the straight bit approaching LS where the canal widened a touch that held fish, and the turning bay towards Dundas was always a good spot.
Once drove home after a rain-sodden blank. Clean forgot that I had promised a lift home to a mate and had left him stranded in the rain at the car park. Being a law-abiding chap I had also switched off my phone so it was only when I was home that I realized the mistake....
Hello - does anybody know anyone who does minor repair work to rods in the Bath area? Fairly basic stuff like mending a cork handle and whipping on hook keepers etc.. Too advanced for my clumsy hands I'm afraid...
I've got a Grey's Prodigy Barbel Rod you can have for £40+pp if you're interested. 1.75lb TC and comes with two tops - normal and quiver + 3 quivertips. Had Barbel up to 16lb 2oz on it and it's a decent enough rod.
It was below the footbridge - we were mainly roving and it was frustrating to say the least. Never like leaving hooks in fish but there were obviously some hidden snags. Nice bit of water though.
Thanks for all the advice - overall we had a tough trip with only a handful of Barbel caught but it's a beautiful river and with a bit more knowledge I'm sure we could have had more. We ended up fishing Hampton Loade, Arley (where we lost more than we caught...) and The Danery
Hello - me and a couple of mates are having a 3 days trip in search of Barbel at Bridgnorth and was hoping for some pointers. I've looked at Hampton Loade and Unicorn on Kinvers Freeliners as well as Northwood and Trimpley on the BAA ticket and they all look promising? But where would we start...
I've always struggled with Lure Rods. I get why the rods are graded according to casting weight - but surely you need some kind of idea of test curve to give you confidence when it comes to playing a big fish. For example I use a 5 - 30 gram one and have had plenty of pike up to 10b on it...
I picked an old Drennan Pike Float Rod on eBay - I think it's a 2.25lb tc. but is great for short/mid range work. I think there was a Deadbeat version that had a faster action but i've never had an issue with it for deadbaiting.... Only drawback is that the detachable handle makes it tricky to...
