    Harrison MUR 12FT 2LB v Torrix 12ft 2lb

Don't think test curve will make much difference as torrix are all through action blank as opposed to fast taper tip. I have old carp rods of 2.5 lb tc that are all through action, brilliant for playing fish on but no good for casting.

    Harrison MUR 12FT 2LB v Torrix 12ft 2lb

Korum 2.2 experts. I think they were developed by Trent barbel anglers. I use them for both barbel and tench, they seem a good compromise rod. Still nice to play a small barbel on and can equally chuck a kamasan black cap 80yrds on a gravel pit. Jason have you used those drennans for barbel? Do...

    River pike

Hi George My advice with the snagging up would be to use lighter gauge trebles,so they open out when you pull for a break. Provided you use strong braid or mono mainline this should nearly always happen. I personally don't use trebles these days, using partridge VB double hooks instead. Lighter...

    The smaller rivers

Hi Kyle. The best thing about smaller more intimate rivers is the fact that in low clear water conditions you can observe your quarry. Just sitting and watching, after baiting up can reveal what dwells within. Time spent walking and watching is far better than second hand information....IMO

    RIP John Wilson

Very sad news. Like many,my inspiration as a kid. Fond memories of watching go fishing for the first time with my old man. John had universal appeal and such enthusiasm that I thought he'd go on forever....number 1 for me....R.I.P John.

Thanks all. I nearly abandoned the session soon after starting though. As I was travelling light I only took a cheapo brolly that soon gave up the ghost and promptly collapsed during a heavy downpour. Luckily no more rain after that so I was able to fish on.

    What hooks?

I tend to run the point down my thumb nail after every fish,if it leaves a groove or better still digs in,it's still good. Used ESP raptors for years but did have a couple open out, although that was bullying big carp away from snags. Have used Korda captors now for ages, seem to get several fish...

    New Venue

Sounds like you could be in for a lot of blanking. It's quite possible if otters have been through that no sizeable barbel remain. If otters remain then there's probably still an available food source,so some barbel could still be there. The only way is to suck it and see. They could be nocturnal?

    Stupid weights

What happens when or if these liars do actually catch a super specimen? Your reputation precedes you after all.

    Bite Alarm recommendations request.

Cheap and cheerful daiwa regal X or z baitrunners. Terrible line lay but bomb proof and the loudest baitrunners ever, drowning out a bit e alarm on low volume easily.

It's no coincidence that anglers with bad etiquette catch less fish. Bite alarms are a superb bit of kit for the specimen angler, but like alot of things they do get abused. There's really no need to have them on anything but minimum volume,if you can't hear them then you're too far away from...

    Bite Alarm recommendations request.

Bite alarms only needed for barbel fishing if taking a leak, pouring a drink or dozing off in the chair. On the odd occasion I've camped out I've always reeled in at bed time.

I'd second that. Also only replaced the head batteries once in 6 years The best feature is the silent heads, just have the sounder box on vibrate in your pocket,no noise pollution. Be careful never to lose the sounder box though, renders the heads useless.

    Fish theft

Cheers Mark. My first session out for 8 weeks and I'm confronted with low life parasites. Thought it strange at dusk when they drove past, turned around and went back past without communicating. Left early after feeling uneasy and found them near the exit. Minimal tackle, but many large buckets...

    Fish theft

Are there any proactive people I can contact to report fish theft. Has anyone any experience of reports being followed up,or would I be wasting my time.
