It's very much a case of each to their own..................I fished commercials for a while when I got back into fishing after a bit of a break.......'Getting a Bend In The Rod' there re-kindled my enthusiasm for fishing. My main problem with these fisheries is that they many stocked to a level...
2off Shimano ST4000FA 'Baby Baitrunners'. Reels in excellent condition, both fully loaded with 10lb Berkley Big Game (No spare spools).
£65 Delivered £60 collected for the pair.
My point exactly Adrian ! My old Shakespere match style handle is still going strong, even with the joints built up with Araldite ! But it's 20 years old or more and believe me a LOT of modern handles aren't that good !!! The Powerstretch is a great handle (admittedly with the well known mods)...
In short my opinion(s) for what they are worth....................
Would I pay the prices being asked ? In General No !
Do I think it's quality kit/bait ? No Doubt !
Is the old Powerstretch Handle heavy ? Compared to a flimsy match handle yes ! Compared to most of the stuff we anglers...
Buy some maggots, bust out the float rod and go fishing !!!! Chub will feed as will Dace and Roach ! Beats sitting behind motionless Barbel Rods !!!
I will have one more bash no matter what !!!
If you met Wolfie, you'd spend the first hour listening to his politically incorrect jokes ! lol
As I said earlier, many of the good anglers go about their business in their own quiet way !
JW is a legend ! Top bloke and a great angler to boot !!!
Stef Horak :- Do you ever smile ? lol
Mick Wood is the most grounded 'successful' angler I have ever met !
There are some VERY good anglers who don't seek 'Fame' as such ! Most of these have no ego or attitude at all and go about their business in their own manner without fuss ! They are the...
Jon, sounds perfect, very sought after rods these days !
I use a Fox Specialist Avon Quiver, 0.75tc and more than enough power for chubbing ! Have had barbel to 8lbs on it. Can honestly say that I've only used the Avon top a couple of times though !
This thread is going nowhere fast ! Please be very careful of what you post on a forum viewable to all ! This is not directed at anyone in particular, just a gentle reminder !
Can't argue with Stradics ! Any 2500/3000 model ! Also check out Shimano Sahara 3000m if you can find one on E-Bay, quality reel and VERY fast retrieve rate !!!
ABU 506's are still great if you can find one ! Local tackle dealer recommends the new ABU 506 MKII Closed Face Match, but not the old...
The Closed Season was put in place a long time ago ! As to if its dates are still relevant I'm not so sure ? BUT I am sure that a LOT of Barbel and Chub etc. spawn later than the glorious 16th ! Strangely, not that many people shout and holler about people targetting species such as Dace when...
Not so many these days ! As the mrs quite rightly says, you can only use one at a time ! (Almost right I guess).
I do however have a bit of a float and leger buying problem ! Every visit to the tackle shop usually results in a couple of a avons and or chubbers and a couple of camo leads 'just...
I'd get Bob Gill to 'Bling Me Up' a lovely pair of rods and then seek out some VGC Shimano 5000GTE's, get them fully serviced by Felindre and be very happy !
Wouldn't help me catch, but if money were no object........Oh and maybe a pair of Chris Lythe pins just for back up.............
