Having told you all about my PB caught this week, I must confess even after 40 years fishing for big fish, I still panic:eek:
But, and it's a big but! The Gardner landing net is an ideal place to rest a big fish. I simply put the fish in the slack margin, and composed myself. Then did the...
I've waited 40 years for this fish. Story is I've fished for big fish of many
species in that time, and only dabbled with barbel.
Had a 7.8 from the Wensum way back, but the huge roach the river once produced kept me busy at the time. However they really have a hold over me at the moment...
Hello Guy's.
I to took my first double today from the Trent. (Sorry the picture is not that great, but I was on my own and the banks stone and steep. The fishes welfare came first.) The fish was as thick around the head/shoulder as my terrier!!.But not as long as I expected. But the chub are...
When I first started fishing, it was just two rods on the licence.
Since then I've only ever fished with a maximum of two regardless of species, even carp.
It's never seemed to be a disadvantage, and with carp I've found 3 lines can cut fish off. But it's only my opinion?
Andrew, Guy's.
Thanks managed to get the Lamprey and liver ordered today, 3k should last me for the remaining barbel season.
Thanks again to you all.
Richard.
I'm sorry if this has been done to death, but.
Anyone know of a good winter boilie?
I'm told lamprey boilies are excellent, but can you find them anywhere?
Thanks.
I meet a guy on the Trent the other week. Told me he had two elevens and a ten in a single sitting. Then a near 13lb the next time I meet him. He seems a really nice guy, but is it me or do other peoples scales all weigh different to mine?
Thing is I know fish like that exist on the Trent...
Rob.
I simple Google search say's. Nottingham federation buddy.
I'm looking all the time for new waters on the Trent. It seems as if day ticket water is getting harder to find, with good reason I expect!
Hope it helps.
Richard.
Graham.
As a novice to this barbel fishing.
It makes good sense to me to use heavy f/carbon and you've explained why. I'm going to give it a try, thanks.
Hello all.
Took the new Daiwa Infinity rods to the river this week. Must say they handle heavy leads (4oz) very well. But just for now they don't feel as good as the Drennan Martin Bowler rods I up graded from. They seem to (soft) hoop over too much with a decent fish on them, almost bending...
Two seasons ago I brought a Trakker three piece suit. Jacket, Bib and braces, and an excellent Fleece. The Fleece is lined with Pertex, so is ideal on a cold day alone. I have some of these new rubber lined ankle boots that are very warm about £40.
Worn together it's just amazing, truly. You...
Just wondered if anyone used tubing up the line for protection against sharp objects when Barbel fishing?
Currently I don't, but wondered if it would be worth an extra fish or a season. I'm fishing on the Trent that seems to be full of sharp rocks and sunken trees?
But it is something else...
I've been reading a few old threads and articles on the forum, and this really jumped out at me.
I think it was Andy Francis that wrote about them in 2012.
My experience with them has all been poor. Line breaking for unknown reasons, mainly around knots. The worst has been Berkley Vanish...
I'm talking about the Trent now.
For most of my small water fishing on rivers I let a small bow of line form when fishing a feeder or ledger weight.
Do you still do this when fishing faster rivers like the Trent, Wye, Severn?d
If so how much, and do you fish for a slack line bite...
Interesting. I've just managed to persuade my dear wife that we needed a bigger car in our old age.
Honda CRV very nice and ideal for barbel or carp gear. Had it two weeks and love the thing, but expensive to run in town. But it's good compromise.
Thanks Robert, it puts my mind at ease. You can go around in circles looking and I've always been a bit of a tackle tart, sadly.
I always feel if you sit behind quality rods, you cannot ever blame the tackle for failure. Do you think 8000 reels are to big/heavy for the Trent? I have also 5000...
