    Seaguar Flourocarbon

Was it the Seaguar Ace Hard, John? I'm going to give it a go. I use X-line for my carping and i really rate it but it is a bit too supple for my hook length requirements. Thanks for the replies gents.

    Seaguar Flourocarbon

Having used JRC stiff flourocarbon for my combi links for years at £2.99 for 20m i was gutted the last of it gone at the weekend. I'm looking for a good, ideally inexpensive, alternative in 20lb b/s. I've heard good things about Seaguar but have never previously looked into it. A...

    what to do?

Is there really any need for those puerile responses to a genuine question from a BFW regular? I despair sometimes. Leon - if you want to stalk and spot barbel I'd go to the teme. If you struggle so what, you'll have had a session after barbel like we never have on the Yorkshire rivers. Go...

    A1 pits

The fishing is good but unfortunately it attracts a similar crowd to Collingham. It's fine in the winter though.

    A quickie session

My normal sessions for the first few weeks of the season, a great time. Shelf life boilies and pellets for me. PVA bag on and bait in the water within 10minutes of arrival in the swim...

Bloody hell. He was about my age :( never forget him losing that massive perch on the predators programme. His enthusiasm was infectious. RIP

    Advice please

I would think your Drennan tench rod would be up for the job as well. I've a korum power float and it really is a joy to use although i've never tested it against barbel of that size. It does suffer a poor design flaw though - when broken down to 2 sections the tip is longer than the butt by...

you never really know what your going to hook

Was wondering why he was fishing with 8lb line, was it on a zig? Tremendous effort on that tackle!

    should I be worried?

The Wharfe goosanders will get them now they've wiped out the silver fish stocks there ;)

    Knots

One thing i picked up from Keith Speer on this site was tying all hooks via knotless hair rig or not. If you're not using a hair rig, just trim the end short. Virtually no reduction in BS of the hooklink and better presentation to boot. I'm sure most folk do that anyway but if you don't...

    Knots

I use a grinner or a knotless knot in most situations tying hooks or attaching line to swivels. Couple them with a figure of eight loop knot and an allbright knot and i reckon that covers 99% of my requirements.

    Good barbel rivers in Yorkshire

Agreed on the Tidal Trent. Probably as close and has a better head of barbel than the yorkshire rivers. Not as pretty of course - it depends on what you want! Hull & DAA have a stretch at Carlton.

    Reduction in goosanders

Or lack of food? ;) The climate hasn't managed to drive them away from the Wharfe at Boston spa :(
