End of an era, for me

Paul, celebrate the near fifty years of barbel fishing you've enjoyed. It's far more than many will experience and now you have new targets, have fun pursuing those.

What are your targets for the new season?

Simply, to continue enjoying fishing for a variety of species across the course of the year.

Free Spirit Float Rod advice... user experience wanted

Oliver, the 15ft rod is cursed. You need to sell it ASAP!😉 It's one that's on my wish-list but can't really justify the outlay. I've had a dabble with one and seen it put to good use by others. Great for big barbel!

    Polarized sunglasses

Alternatively, buy a dirt-cheap pair of polarised clip-ons. In fact buy two or three pairs with different colour tints for varying conditions. It's a great addition to your prescription varifocal lenses.

    The state of our rivers

Let's hope the water companies lose this case!

    End of Season Lessons

Never turn your back on a fish you are playing. I did, wading to the bank for a net and the fish kited to a snag.😭

    River tripod

The Parker Angling TBR2 is on sale on eBay (identical to the Trafford one but more expensive. The original was sub £30). The latter is a great lightweight tripod for banks where you can push the spikes into. I've used it for barbel and zander fishing and as long as you have your spikes shoved...

    Collingham official statement

Regarding having to stay in a B&B. Just think how much a farmer could make by opening a campsite next to the river!

    Collingham official statement

I'd be happy for admin to do that. I posted it as there were a number of queries on the other thread regarding whether there was an official comment from the club.

    Trent day ticket?

However, now that Collingham have banned night fishing for non-members, the A1 Pits is going to be even more rammed than it is now.

    Float rods

Adam, it's always recommended to have two rods set up as the inevitable tangles that happen when float fishing always come just as the fish are feeding! Not necessarily 2 x Freespirit Hi S's! But if you could, you would.😉

    Float rods

A Cadence 14ft CR10 will suffice for most of the fishing you're likely to do. You won't be able to haul a big barbel out of a snag once it's in, but you should be able to stop it getting there in the first place.

    Winter gear

It's all about layering IMO, but then again, I often walk quite a distance and tend to sweat no matter how cold it is. I'm another ex-miltary Goretex fan and can recommend these to wear underneath...

    Korum’s customer care

After my moan on Saturday on here, quelle surprise...I got an email offering me the zip pull! It's only taken 2½ months.

    Lesson Learnt. Rod Posting

Here's an idea that might work for members. As barbel anglers, we cover many areas of the country and often travel miles to fish. Add to that the journeys we do for work/family and we probably already have a network that could deliver rods, be it in stages or over a few weeks. For example, I'm...

    Korum’s customer care

I have two Korum ruckbags, the latter being the deluxe version. Unfortunately one of the zip-pulls broke, so I contacted Korum for a spare. I got the same response as you Haydn, in other words, nowt. Today I tried to prize the part of the zip that holds the pull only for it to break off.😡 I...
