Still have some Active 8 and Active Maple 8 basemix in the freezer. Both great baits.

    Old bait

Back in the days of the dinosaur used to buy ingredients from the likes of Rod Hutchinson, Cotswold and Geoff Kemp. Keep a lot of these for years and had good results. Kept a couple of bags of Hutchy fish and crab mix (forget the name but something like Superfish) and used it for barbel over 5+...

Korum aeronium supalite deluxe chair - edited and merged

Just a suggestion as was looking at a new chair a while ago. Was keen on the Korum but ended up with the Fox Duralite. Heavier OK at 3.2 kg but higher at with arms, the latter being a selling point for this old codger. Fox Duralite Cheers Bob

Absolutely madness what people will pay

Had a 'thing' for Drennan Tench Float rods - Mark 1 and 2 and Super Tench. These could be picked up for around 40 to 50 quid in the early days. Unfortunately things got daft with examples reaching £200. However, you could still pick good examples up occasionally at non silly money prices. Seen...

Free spirit vs Daiwa barbel rods

There are some other decent blanks around (not mentioned so far in this thread) but finding them is the main problem. One such example being built: If you can 'Try before you Buy' Cheers Bob

Free spirit vs Daiwa barbel rods

Still got a pair of 1.75 Interceptors Joe - which have seen long service and caught me a lot of barbel from summer to winter flood conditions. Keep meaning to rebuild them and maybe I will. Reviewed them back in 2001 Link Interceptors I also have a brand new 1lb 10oz Interceptor which I built...

Free spirit vs Daiwa barbel rods

Built on some Conoflex and North Western blanks as well. The Daiwas were Whisker Kevlar in the light carp range - including a delightful Whisker 1lb test 11' 'floater' rod. Tricasts were 11' and 12' ranging from 1.25 to 2.5 test. Now we are spoilt for choice regarding blanks and test curves -...

    Advice Needed - Custom Rods

Handles are important too. Give 'em some thought. Standard pipe fittings are easy and convenient to fit but it's nice to minimise the 'plastic' and make them more comfortable. Cheers Bob

    Advice Needed - Custom Rods

Working on some new rod building equipment Rob but when that's done I may do a run of builds. 😉 Got some blanks and quite a bit of fittings and cork. Cheers Bob

    Advice Needed - Custom Rods

Personally wouldn't. Be patient and get what you want, unless there's a bargain to be had. Wouldn't be the first time that I've bought a new rod and rebuilt it to my spec. Just my opinion, but off the shelf rods can be quite varied. Did a hear a shout of 'we knew he'd say that' Cheers Bob

    Advice Needed - Custom Rods

A bit of additional advice: Make sure that you get decent fittings and especially decent quality cork for the handle. I've seen some expensive rods that has poor cork laced with filler. This should lessen the need for rod maintenance in the future. The 11' Torrix is a great rod and used them...

    Advice Needed - Custom Rods

Having built and owning all the rods you mention and quite a few other Harrison blanks would most likely go for the 1.75 Torrix at 12'. I would also urge you to try before you buy - to see if the blank actually meets your preferences. Graham's suggestion of a pair is good advice. Probably built...

    best glue.. again

U40 QUIK-BOND ROD BOND ADHESIVE Bonds almost any material to any material, i.e. cork, metal, wood, graphite, fiberglass, EVA etc. Retains a degree of flexibility. Cheers Bob

The Saber Supra Compact Rucksack is very similar to the Thinking Anglers one and at substantially less pennies. Just sayin'
