    Favorite hook size for barbel?

These are the hooklengths i generaly use Joe, if you click the bar on the top of the picture it will show them pretty much full size. I have to admit your reasoning is very plausible, if it were correct would be the answer to why most of my Barbel come at night. But having said that we...

Email just recieved - Unhappy News...............Paul Fisk

My yahoo account was hacked last year with an almost identical story, except he was stuck in a hotel in Madrid, and needed £1600 to pay his bill  If only i could get my hands on them just once ! He'd need £1600 then ! A mate of mine tracked the e-mails to a computer from Yorkshire...

    Favorite hook size for barbel?

Well it depends on the time of year Joe, it's only in the depths of winter that all of my fishing is in darkness, summer months it gradually increases, but right now at least half the session is in daylight, but the fish do tend to come after dark. As far as the Barbel spooking in daylight...

    Favorite hook size for barbel?

You're dead right Neil, one size of hook won't fit all sizes of bait, but i always use a size of bait that will suit a size 6 or 4, even so the size may vary a bit, but as i said if i'm using a bigger bait than usual i increase the length of hair to compensate, there's a limit to how far you can...

    Favorite hook size for barbel?

I think Stephen asked a fair enough question Crooky  bit of a pointless reply i think ! ;) I assume you mean the size of the bait in use ? in your reply, but actually you can use various sizes including what most would regard as small hooks with a bigger bait than you would normally...

A few donkeys have gone missing from a field near Woodley - do you know anything about that Crooky ? All sounds lovely - but i'll be bringing my own burgers for the BBQ thanks ;) Ian.

The Crooky monster Very unfairly maligned Keith ! :( But whilst we are on that sort of subject i should warn anyone partaking in the the day to be aware of the Crooky Monster ! Apparently he's been frequenting the area of the Causeway lake recently, but the likleyhood of food being...

To Tell or not to tell

Throughout the whole membership of this site, you get a lot of varied opinions, soi think it's a case of each to his own, so long as you don't harm the fishing of others - on these boards or not i think it's ok, that should be the overriding consideration, even if an angler posting doesn't mind...

    salt and meat.

I agree with Albert nigel, salt will have the same effcect on fish as it has on the meat, or at least too much will. If you're trying to make your hookbait firmer to stop being ripped off the hair, go for a firm type of meat like salami, if it's being used directly on the hook, i prefer it soft...

    Otters and barbel

I would agree Crooky, but i would say the same about the Badger culls that are now going ahead if you conducted a Poll of the general public, but i don't see many, apart from the usual protest groups up in arms about it. By the way i'm not advocating Otter culling, but i do feel, at least in...

To Tell or not to tell

Keep posting Graham ! :D I didn't vote in the poll because if we're talking pictures sometimes i do, and sometimes i don't, i suppose that includes a posting without pictures too. Much depends on how much time i've got, or even whether i feel like sitting at the key board ! sometime i may...

    A quickie session

Not that i do nowadays, but assuming you've suddenly got the chance to grab your gear and go, but no chance to prepare bait - spend a minute checking you've got everything you need, cos this is when you'll forget something :( Don't worry about bait, stop at a petrol station on the way, grab a...

    Small river summer tactics

Throughout the year my fishing times change very little - if at all really, possibly a bit shorter in winter. What does change though is the amount of daylight / nightime fishing, such as at this time of year 2/3rds of my hours on the bank are in daylight. What i do think is that the Barbel...
