    Darent valley rods…

I also just bought the two piece float rod for the convenience of leaving it set up. Not had a chance to use it just yet but impressed with the build for the money. The tackle box are an excellent company to deal with so buy with confidence.

    Crayfish

They eat tungsten putty so I doubt there is much they don't eat.

    Interest in baits

Carp chronicles podcasts have a fair few episodes on bait worth listening to. The Jason Rider and Dave Moore were very good just to name a couple. Definitely will watch the Kenny Gates one above as well.

    Boilie favourites/recommendations?

I think it's British aqua feeds that are going trade only.

Korda camo bolt and run rigs,

If this works effectively, I can't think of anything else on the market that I've seen that acts as a bolt rig aswell as turning into a safe free running system upon hooking a fish but also doesn't lose the lead. A clever idea that I will investigate if I felt the need to use a bolt rig.

    Landing net

Just bought a tackle box darent valley 36in net for 25 quid. Spreader block and arm look very solid. The mesh looks decent quality and deep enough. Quite impressed.

    Oiling a cork handle

Shall we split the difference and call them black rubber handles that no one likes?

    Oiling a cork handle

I think slimline duplon has been a modern alternative to the old thick stuff which I think is a less spongy, more dense material.

    Oiling a cork handle

I say duplon as a generic term, I thought duplon and eva were the same thing. They are on my original Drennan specialist power barbel that I still use. I asked a friend to quote me for some new rods recently and if I go ahead, will still have duplon/eva. I like the feel of it, the way it grips...

    I am what I am 🙃

    Oiling a cork handle

I actually prefer full duplon on my barbel rods. There..I said it.

    Oiling a cork handle

It does seem to be popular opinion to leave cork natural but personally I have had no problems. Danish oil of course is microporous allowing the substrate to breathe. I'm only a lowly decorator and no french polisher but giving my experience for balance. These were done 3-4 years ago. Purely...

    Oiling a cork handle

I used danish oil on my cork handle carp rods. It really did revive the bleached out looking cork and gave it a nice colouration. I washed the corked then masking taped the fittings and gave three coats of danish oil applied with a lint free cloth.

    Treating yourself.

I'm not a traditional angler but given the chance I think I could become a floppy hatted, Wallis casting nightmare quite easily. On that note I think as a retirement present, I would love an Edward Barder rod. They really are a thing of beauty.

    Fish intelligence

The dictionary meaning of the word Intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. So by association some pressured fish are perceived to be able to deal with rigs ie carp. This could be a basic intelligence according to definition. If you were to ask me if fish are...

    Fishing in the floods

It would be worth watching Barbel up close and personal part 2 winter for a good guide on winter/ high water location.

    Powapacs - Avoid !

Yep. I use the Ryobi version so it will do all my home tools as well. Very quick to charge the batteries. 25 quid for the USB attachment.

    BIG CHUB

I think I would accept a big 6 and larger if was caught on moderate barbel tackle. After all a barbel of the same size would still count.

    Best under £100 polarised glasses

My mistake and I can't seem to edit original post. Glass is more scratch resistant than plastic lenses. <I just edited your original post for you Stuart - paul4>

    Best under £100 polarised glasses

The clarity of the glass may be better but not the polarisation. I pay hundreds of pounds for glass filters for my landscape photography because of the clarity and lack of colour casts and also a circular polariser which also has great clarity and lack of colour cast however the polarisation is...
