Thoughts on Barbel wising up to rigs

You also want to believe that if a pick up does come your as likely as possible to connect to that fish. If I think I can get an extra 20% I’m going to take it.

Thoughts on Barbel wising up to rigs

Possibly because the barbel market segment is a bit nieche, whereas Carp makes a huge market share of angling.

Thoughts on Barbel wising up to rigs

How has that rig faired for you?

Thoughts on Barbel wising up to rigs

I think a lot of this comes down to doesn’t look or feel right as a free offering. Free line a bait and it’s often nailed. It’s also worth noting that pulls could be from anything, there’s some clonking Dave on the Avon that bang away on the pellet.

    Fishing and work.

The simple answer is what you feel comfortable with. I fish the same way, I go out after the bedtime routine. I’ve had a fair few occasions where I’m getting back up for work after 3 hours sleep. If you feel your too tired though that’s up to you to decide. Lots of people survive only 4/5 hours...

    Deformed barbel

I’ve heard loads of reasons but nothing conclusive. Personally I think it’s just something that happens to the spine, through damage. Spawning etc can be rough.

    Deformed barbel

Some fish are more prone to this kind of deformity. Golden Orfe are terrible for it, for those not familiar they are a strain off Ide, not a million miles from Barbel. It also effects Koi semi regularly. No one knows, although there’s plenty of speculation as to why this occurs in Cyprinidae...

    A Trent surprise !!!!

Aren’t they stock controlled, requiring permission from DEFRA sane deal with Catfish. So if they’ve come from a commercial it was probably a fair while ago. I expect they are released overgrown pets. I did a little dig. It’s generally thought these occasional captures are pet releases. There’s...

    Wye & Usk news

Being the same species, pretty relevant I recon… there could be regional adaptations that have developed over the last 10k years though. It’s telling however that you won’t find them much further north than the U.K. and won’t find them much further south than France. In terms of French rivers...

If you look at the natural range of Barbel, that will probably tell you exactly what you need to know.

Completely understand that viewpoint but my point is that it’s not evidence led as such, it’s anecdotal. You cannot pin the death on temperature alone. That might come across like I’m being an ass but I’m trying to be logical. I seem to recall a large part of the issue for Barbel is to do with...

    Wye & Usk news

I 100% guarantee you that’s the case. Fish are not just fish. Penguins aren’t even the same. Variations in durability exist between different species that are very closely related let alone distantly. Hypothetical and horrid experiment. If you took a sample of similar sized corse fish and put...

    Wye & Usk news

The 20c is based on Salmonids, which are about as closely related to Barbel as a Robin is to Raven. 25c may seem high but what evidence has been given as to what is and isn’t suitable for specific species?

    Thames head dries

Surely we all know by now that changing the manager of the party in power doesn’t really do anything, even changing the party in power at best changes the how it goes wrong. Politics doesn’t change society, people do, which is pretty much the idea of democracy. Until you get a large enough...

    Thames head dries

Can you imagine if any other commodity was like water? They supply us with something that’s falls out the sky, loose half of it during the delivery and charge you. You then get charged a second time, often by a different company to remove it from your home and treat it. Half the time they...

My Shimano Hyperloop match. Odd choice maybe but sentiment and much what Richard said, I can kinda do anything corse with it.

    Bank tramp or tackle tart?

My tackle bag and kit is like my work tools. I don’t carry unnecessary stuff, I do have redundancy and it’s very organised. I’m one of those people where everything has a specific home. Why? Because my mind is a scatter box, I don’t want to waste time wondering if I left something behind or...
