I have a excellent pretty much as new 13ft tricast John Allerton match waggler for sale.
I bougt this rod brand new from a tackle shop and it has been used by myself. On the limited times i've been out and used it i've caught dace, chub, roach, grayling and barbel.
The rod is very light and...
I had a last hurrah trotting a float on the river, and very enjoyable it was to 🙂.
Today was a similar kind of day to yesterday with a quite nasty cold northerly wind and an air temp of 7 degrees upon arrival at late morning which had rose to 9 degrees when I left at about 3.30pm.
The...
Thanks Julian 🙂.
if you mean the line etc, the line I swear by is daiwa sensor and I nearly always use 6lb straight through to the hook. The hook I used today was a drennan acolyte gripper size 12's.
The float is a 4 1/2 gram bolo form Andrew Burt on this forum. I really like Richard Isaics...
I ventured out today, man was that water cold!
Today the river was very low and clear, it froze again last night and the high was 7 where I fished. I think that combination killed the particular swim that I fished and after a couple of hours of horrible cold wading I only managed one chub of a...
No, it was a abu 501, when it slid off I actually drove over it 🤪.
The shotgun slid off and skidded down the rod, it survived and a m8 of mine still has it!
I've left a reel on the car roof, even left a shotgun on the car roof once and on both those occassions I only realised what i'd done when I braked and they slide forward off the roof 😶.
Had a go just above the tidal area this afternoon, how cold was that wind today 😱. I was there for about three hours but fished for about half that time due to roaving and chatting bullshine with a couple of other anglers lol.
I really wasn't expecting that horrendus downstream wind and had...
I forgot to mention, when I was playing in the largest of the barbel yesterday, I could make out another good sized fish of some kind swimming along side it, possibly a barbel or large chub and i'm sure I could make out some other fishy shadows/shapes around the hooked fish.
I have often seen...
Thanks HZ, its just a bit of old cut down bath towel which I use to hang over my trouser belt and wipe my hands on.
I dunked it in the river, rung it out and used it to lay the fish on.
I recieved a new rod yesterday, "a 15ft long rod"!
The longer rod proved to be very handy today as there was quite a strong gusty downstream wind and the extra length made mending the line and controling the float easier.
It was about twenty minuites before I caught a chub of about a pound...
If i'm picturing your description correctly, that sounds like a very dodgy manouvre Cliff.
Too much pressure on a short section of the rod and the pressure is applied in the wrong way.
What a great session, and achievement to catch those tench so early in the year!
Float fishing for tench is a very close second to trotting for chub and barbel for me, brilliant stuff.
