Thanks Paul, great reply. I’ll take a look at that video. The paste I use doesn’t break down quickly at all always still there’s once reeled in hence why I use a hair and not directly round the hook. Was planning on going back this eve and trying smaller baits but feels a lot colder out today...
I’m using paste Jon normally a lump of 20 - 30mm roughly but have been known to put much smaller lumps out if I feel that’s what’s needed, I tried this last night.
I will also say, the first time I came across this group of barbel in the same spot it was daytime so I started off feeding some...
Just wanted to see people’s thoughts on this..
I’ve caught a fair amount of barbel on my local river over the years, always on the same method, running lead, rod on the rest and wait for it to “3ft twitch” and away. That’s becoming less and less the case now and the majority I’ve had this...
Yeah that’s probably a fair observation in gravel not being quite as supple.. it’s the best I know of for now and nice and cheap which is a bonus! I found an old spool of Kryston silkworm with some tackle in the loft recently. It was 25lb and really supple, was half tempted to give it a go bit...
Drennan sink braid was my go to Barbel hooklink for years… was gutted when they discontinued it. I now use the not quite as good replacement, gravel braid. I’m not sure why I don’t like it as much? Still does the job had plenty of fish on it.
Also to all the coated users who worry about...
Yes had the 26 inch one for maybe 2 years and it just broke on me last week netting a fish!
the plastic spreader block split where the threaded insert is held in place. Don’t get me wrong they’re are not very expensive so maybe a couple of seasons of use is about right?
Having to use my...
If you don’t mind paying the money the nash indulgence ultralite is by far the best chair I’ve used for angling on rivers it’s well padded, comfortable but really light with it. There are plenty of other options most are cheaper but found them to either be well padded (comfortable) but heavy or...

In that case I’ve got 4 5010’s that could do with a tune up haha. ones got a temperamental bail arm that doesn’t spring back like it used too. Could maybe send 2 initially if you could take a look?
Cheers Adam will definitely have a look into that then. Have known about the Woking lakes (langhams, cobbets and Sandersons) but busy carp club/syndicate lakes are what have driven me to enjoy more time on the rivers these days haha
Hi Adam, thanks for the reply appreciate it. Hadn’t thought about the Woking ticket, will have a look into it. I wonder if they have a dawn til dusk rule too... like you, the byfleet ticket is appealing mainly because it means I can fish into the evening. Not interested in doing the nights...
Hi, hoping to get some advice/ info on club tickets on the Mole or wey in Surrey. Looking to get 1 or 2 tickets for the coming season after mainly just fishing my local river Wandle and occasionally the Thames for the last few years I fancy a change.
I’ve looked at the byfleet ticket (waiting...
