Good points Mike,I’ve got both chairs and the JRC is more comfortable but not being the tallest of people the short legs aren’t a problem.I tend to do short sessions so the Korum is ok but saying that I’ll probably get some thin foam just to pad it out a little.
As for your question Terry,I...
This is an interesting topic,do you need a fixed/semi fixed lead ? If you are using a feeder, pva bag or straight lead when you cast the weight/bag will be far heavier than the bait you are casting, unless it’s a large piece of meat/light lead,so therefore the weight will pull the hook link out to...
Max Millwards in Wednesfield was the place to get rarities, limited editions and coloured vinyls,he was a really nice bloke, plus he liked his barbel fishing on the Danery near Bridgnorth. The shop was very close to where I lived, spent a few hours in there talking vinyl and fishing,he sadly passed...
I had a look at the FS Barbel Gold at Stoneleigh earlier this year, they looked and felt really nice with an excellent finish. You say that you will be fishing small rivers so you won’t be casting to the horizon so you won’t need the expensive anti frap guides. To my mind they are an excellent...
When I whipped the isotopes on my rod tips I put a small length of light reactive plastic(off an old illuminous bobbin) under the isotope making it just that bit more visible,a bit fiddly but works ok 👍
I’ve got a couple of pairs of the old Optix Cormorants, still good despite their age, picked em up for stupid money(50p) off the local car boot sale :):)
I bought a very similar one but with the double leg guides for £23 off eBay a couple of years ago,I think the bidding was low because it was pick up only, luckily for me it was only about 8 miles from where I live !! Bought a Shimano 4000 super aero gtm off the same seller for £17,great...
Just checked out £155 “original tench float rod”..........turns out to be one of the later versions with the different graphics and single leg guides, there is an original model listed as well which has reached £62 (albeit with a missing a liner in one of the guides)
I’ve got an original one plus...

I replaced my Korum total protection 2 rod with the Trakker NXG (1 up and 1 down version) Although not as “neat” looking as the Korum it is a very good piece of kit, ample padding and plenty of space for bank sticks etc and very comfortable to carry. My rods are Free Spirits with 5000 baitrunners...
I had one on my net for just one session,I found it made the net too buoyant and made netting a barbel very tricky in the flowing water, took it off and sold it to a carp angler.
Just a few amino pellets Jon to mix in with the halibuts etc in my feeder/bag mix,as you say the pellets weren’t particularly cheap, just saved a couple of quid on 3 bags for a tenner 👍
There were a few bargains to be had on a couple of stalls selling one offs/end of lines but on the whole the...
