Anyone got a few Bob spare?

I actually know of 2 cases where adjoining farm land was sold and the new farmers were then shocked to find club members fishing on their land. They tried to kick club members off (get off my land), including one farmer who threatened to crush a members car with his tractor 🚜 The bottom line is...

Anyone got a few Bob spare?

So its just the fishing rights and not the land? In my experience of serving on a fishing club committee, such arrangements and fraught with danger, as when there’s a fall out with the actual landowner, things can quickly go tits up!

    Brolly reviews

I’m 6’4 and the Drennan SS is fine.

    Lidl garlic sausage

Ive had Barbel and Chub as small as 3lb on half a tin, as per previous photos, you can see that other smaller fish can attack the bait, thus significantly reducing it in size. Wait until you catch one and its spat the full half tin, halfway up the hook length, meaning you land both barbel and...

    Mortimer and whitehouse new series

For me the Fast Show was a masterpiece with so many great characters: Reeves and Mortimer were excellent in their time too. Probably why I love M & W gone fishing so much.

    Brolly reviews

I can only comment on the Drennan SS Brolly. It’s lighter than the brolly it replaced and is very well made. Had it over 12 months and I’m very happy with it. My only slight niggle is the brolly spike is somewhere between a conventional spike and screw spike, it’s also not a particularly sharp...

    Lidl garlic sausage

The bit on the left is a half tin hookbait, the bit on the right, was on the hook and in the water for an hour plus.

As I pointed out in the above linked thread, 99% of Barbel anglers will dismiss the big meat method, which suits me fine. Having been put onto the method by a mate, and having read Lawrence’s original writings on the subject, I’ve spent a huge amount of time perfecting/tweaking it, to my own...

    Bobco - In Administration

I was shocked when Total Angling in Shrewsbury was taken over by Angling Direct a few weeks ago. This was the one remaining Angling shop in the whole area, serving anglers who fish both the Severn and surrounding carp lakes. If that model cant work on an independent local level, with no other...

Drennan relaunches Specialist Triangle Landing Nets

Glad to hear it, I've hust had plastic spreader blocks (non-Drennan), fail on several occasions over the years

    New Drennan Barbel Rods

I think they’ve improved the lacquer finish on the full range of SS rods? I bought the Duo rod in Oct 2021 and the finish appears to have changed since then. It was really poor on the rod I had, having an uneven finish and it scratched from being placed on a plastic rod rest!

Drennan relaunches Specialist Triangle Landing Nets

Plastic spreader blocks always worry me. There is absolutely no other reason why it shouldn’t be metal other than cost saving. Fortunately I still have 2 of the original Middy 30+ Barbel nets, complete with metal spreader blocks.

    Waterproof jacket

The problem with any waterproof coat, no matter what material it’s made from or what it’s proofed with, once the seams fail on the neck and shoulders, you’re stuffed. If you carry heavy gear across your neck and shoulders, it pulls at the seams and they fail more quickly.

Wanted: ATTS Underlit or Neville Bite Alarms

I personally like ATTS with underlit wheels, no nonsense and do the job 👍🏻 Had them a while and the batteries last a long time. Also the basic, rather than deluxe receiver.

    Why Korum, why?

My biggest issue with Korum currently, is I need to replace my aging and original XL Bait and Bits Bag. It so simple yet brilliant, with both its external front pocket, large outer pocket and the main compartment. I use it for all my Barbel, Chub and Perch short roving sessions, considered one...

    Lidl garlic sausage

A small tin of meat can on occasion only give me two hookbaits, aka the big meat method. I therefore wanted to try and produce my own large hook baits, by introducing garlic powder and other additives to the pork and ham. I tried a couple of 'make your own spam' recipes from google/youtube, but...

    Lidl garlic sausage

This is the cheapest place for spam, I occasionally buy some from here: https://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/spam-twin-pack-2-x-200g-254865?srsltid=AfmBOorRe71lnqO8udOrE61rtj3r1Kx6nZB_vMV-exQRAnZDD00IueNS That gives me precisely 4 hook baits 🙂

    Lidl garlic sausage

My wife does a weekly home delivery shop with Sainsburys and saw the larger tins of Spam on offer, so she ordered me 2 tins. It was out of stock and they sent 5 small tins of Spam as a replacement. The price was £16, so she sent them back! 🙂

How often do you replenish your mainline?

I like Drennan Camo XT but the diameter is thin for the BS. Happy with it on the pin for close in work. When chucking bigger leads or feeders across the river, I want something more robust, so go with Gardner Hydrotuff on the baitrunners.
