Beach fishing on uk coastal areas

If you can get live ones, probably the most deadly bait for Bass, particularly in river mouths and Estuaries.

Beach fishing on uk coastal areas

That would be fine for a lot of venues as long as it can cast reasonably with 3 or 4 oz of lead and bait. You'd be able to land pretty much anything you could find fishing over clean beaches with that. It would also work ok for float fishing, which depending on location can catch Wrasse, Bass...

Best 12ft low water/small barbel rod?

It's Christmas and he wants to buy himself a present....😁

    Maggot Feeder Rigs

I just use the large blackcaps, and add weight which is usually required in winter as they only seem to go to 50 grams.

Choosing between three barbel rods to get me started

Good initial choice on the rod, you won't go wrong with that but I agree with others that something a bit lighter may be more enjoyable to use on smaller waters. I used a 1.25lb Drennan series 7 Avon on the Wye this year in low conditions and it was brilliant, great rod if you don't need to cast...

    Floats

I saw those in my local as well, bit thick and short in the tip for my liking.

    Let's discuss mainline...

Another vote for Sensor, I don't do a lot of Barbelling , but haven't felt the need to use anything else for legering. Been using it for my beachcasting for years and never had a problem, cheap as chips as well.

    What Scales Please?

I've got some of those as well, I've tested them with known weights up to 15lb and they're very accurate.

    What Scales Please?

Those Flyweights are absolute rubbish, and expensive. Just nasty tat, and not at all accurate.

How do you like your river

Low has been great for me on my few trips to the Wye this year. For my local Chubbing falling with a bit of colour seems best.

Recommendations sought: Float Rod for trotting for Roach & Chub

Maybe, but I'd rather be having a cup of tea and a fag whilst introducing bait than tackling up!😁

Recommendations sought: Float Rod for trotting for Roach & Chub

That is a shame, I hate 3 piece rods. Don't know why they dont make 4 piece ones, which you can break down as a 2 piece if you wish.

Recommendations sought: Float Rod for trotting for Roach & Chub

If you get a 13ft compact plus Acolyte, I'm sure you won't look back, unless you have a very short car.....

    Ray Walton Rolling ‘ pin’

I've never used one but a mate had one and said the line twist he got with it was terrible, so much so he was trying to get rid of it at a bargain price. I don't see the point of them myself, learn to pull/wallis cast, which can't be that hard if I can manage it, or just use a fixed spool.

    Feeders or PVA bags.

I much prefer bags, cleaner than messing about with gb, and Imo a lead snags less than a feeder.

    Barbel bites/ takes

Ok, I can see the principle of that, but doesn't all that tubing and gubbins negate any stealthy advantage over a normal hair rig?

    Motivation.

Variety is definitely key, imo. I do Coarse, Game and Sea, I'd soon get bored if I stuck to just one for too long...
