The Magic Mix - Astaxanthin boilies

That would make about 30kg of finished boilies though 😀

The Magic Mix - Astaxanthin boilies

I was actually thinking of adding a preservative to shelf-life my next batch, keep getting moaned at for putting fishing stuff in the freezer 😆

    Penn BAITRUNNER

For another alternative look at the Okuma Aventa baitfeeders in 5000-6000 size. I've bought a pair and prefer them over my £260 Shimano 5500 LC CI4+ baitrunners. And they were only £80 each, fantastically smooth drag and great cranking power, also backed by a 5 year warranty.

    Holdall

Greys prodigy 2 rod holdall is good, side pocket big enough for a simple brolly I think but you wouldn't get a proper brolly system in one.

The Magic Mix - Astaxanthin boilies

I also read that the original Robin Red had this ingredient some years ago, likely removed due to cost though I think.

    Tidal Trent Fish

I don't think the tidal is salty until you get towards the humber / estuary, all the tide does is hold the flow back at a certain point.

The Magic Mix - Astaxanthin boilies

If anyone wants some I'm willing to stump up for a kilo and then I can post out 50g bags for about £4 a pop, enough for a kilo of base mix or 1.5kg of finished boilies. Or you can try and make your own glug with it or even paste wraps. It be nice to get other folks in on the experiment 🙂

The Magic Mix - Astaxanthin boilies

Bought in bulk it can be gotten for about £70 a kilo from aliexpress, I mix 50g per kilo of basemix. If you do get some make sure it's the 10% variant.

The Magic Mix - Astaxanthin boilies

I've started rolling my own boilies as per this thread over on maggotdrowners forums: https://www.maggotdrowning.com/forums/threads/the-magic-mix.236123/ I read about Astaxanthin and how it was the magic ingredient in the orginal (orange coloured, oily looking) Elips / Ellipse pellets of old...

Lower Derwent - Pride of Derby stretch

It's usually most productive at night time on this stretch, but of late I've been catching when it's low and clear in bright sunshine and even on boilie. Must be a bigger stock of Barbel in here than first thought.

Lower Derwent - Pride of Derby stretch

My PB is 12 n half pound from there and I've lost some bigger fish, did me in snags when I just couldn't stop the runs. I'm hoping to get a 15lb'er out of there this year or next.

Lower Derwent - Pride of Derby stretch

Been having a good run of late, went yesterday for a few hours after work and managed one just under 8lb during daylight hours weirdly.

    Rod Rest Angle adaptors

I probably bought the same stainless ones, complete crap 😐

    Best boilies.

My own boilies have caught me way more Barbel than off the shelf boilies like Sticky Krill or Source. https://www.maggotdrowning.com/forums/threads/the-magic-mix.236123/ :D

    Feeders or PVA bags.

I'm finding success not using a feeder at all, just a gripper lead with 4ft hooklength with a boilie and a PVA bag on he hook with a few chopped up boilies and a small pinch of pellets. Keeps the fish away from the lead and stops them spooking (in theory anyway) I've not blanked for a while now.

    Reels

Okuma Aventa Baitfeeders for me in 6000 size, absolutely stonking reels for £80 each. I've retired my Shimano Medium Baitrunner CI4+ £260 jobbies for these.
