Aeronium recliner here too and it's supported me from 25 stone down to my more modest 21 stone for about 2 years.
Think there may just be some bad batches out there.
Problem with videos is they'll give you methods and tactics and stuff but then make no mention of how the peg was chosen, watercraft involved etc.
*Dons tinfoil hat*
Usually sat on a flyer trying to sell us something from whichever sponsor gives them stuff.
Funnily enough Pike season is right around the corner.
I will for sure try this tactic on proper Pike gear on a water near me to see if i can tempt one of the big girls.
Time for an upgrade @Simon Archer

Same one i use, practically indestructible :D
But there is also this one for hardcore flask vandals ;)

I figure we've all got an expiration date on us for traipsing miles over 3 or 4 styles with loads of gear in the pursuit of a decent fish. Time to make the most of it i think :)
You didn't do too bad, made it back to the carpark in one piece 😎
I've been fishing properly for 4 or 5 years now and have been Barbel fishing for 2.
I can pretty much pick out a likely peg on a small river like the Derwent and catch fish, especially around September time. But i'm useless on big rivers like the Trent unless i go to a known day ticket stretch...
Well meat definitely sorts out the big fish.
Fished here last night:
Right hand rod has the big meat in the very slow water down the edge next to some reeds.
Half of a 250g tin of Plumrose bacon grill with the sides shaved a bit so it wasn't so angular looking.
5ft coated braid hooklength...
I'll be trying it one one rod tomorrow night for sure, just need some big hooks now, I never usually fish bigger than an ESP Cryogen curve shank size 10 😆
One of my preferred pegs has a nearside slack that has produced in the past on boilies, but i'm fancying putting a big lump (half a tin) of meat down there for a change.
How would you recommend fishing it? Freelined and plonked in or set up properly with a lead so there is something for the...
Okuma Epixor XT (5500 size is more like a Daiwa 4012) Lacks a spare spool unless you buy from Aliexpress but it punches well above it's price point. It's like a Daiwa TDR build quality wise and performance and nice slow oscillation for great line lay...
Okuma Aventa Baitfeeder in 6000 size.

I use them for all my Barbel fishing, no issue cranking back heavy feeders in strong flow. One touch folding handle and a really nice and smooth drag. They do 8000 and 10000 too...
So much hate for Okumas :p
My Aventa Baitfeeders came with spare spools, proper full featured Alu ones too not that Graphite rubbish.
Amazingly good reels infact.

Finally in stock somewhere in the UK, been hard to get a hold of for a while unless you import.

£75 each, come with fully featured spare spool.
My 6000's replaced some £260 a piece Shimano CI4+ LC Medium...
Only 20-30 minutes drive to Pride of Derby from Burton, and plenty of Trent and Derwent to go at.

I couldn't be a Carper or a match angler. Way too much kit and money.
At least with Barbel fishing I can just take my chair, rucksack and holdall. Nets and unhooking mat folded up in the chair.
Tartiest thing I would spend money on would be rods and reels.
