    need camera for fishing

Have a look at the Pentax range, they offer many advantages over other RLR's in that they are weatherproof, and can be used in the wet, just pick the right lens and you'll be away. You can get very good condition 2nd hand ones very reasonably if you shop around. I have a Pentax K5 with a...

using a lead clip (safely)-minimum weight for effective self-hooking

As promised, a quick picture of the rig, you need to strip about 140mm of the coating off the braid to tie the knotless knot and leave about 10mm of stripped braidat the hook end, this is the hinge and is what makes the rig work. The tungsten gripper is enough weight to just hold a critically...

using a lead clip (safely)-minimum weight for effective self-hooking

Mark, that sounds like a cruder version of the rig which I was suggesting, it certainly stops them ejecting the rig when they realise there is a hook there....

using a lead clip (safely)-minimum weight for effective self-hooking

Howard, You could use a heavier lead, which does aid hooking, also for the type of fishing you describe you can do some very interesting things with critically balanced boillies (1/2 & 1/2 pop-up & normal) and some coated braid which really does make the rig self hooking....PM me if you want...

using a lead clip (safely)-minimum weight for effective self-hooking

I hate to say it... but you can learn an awful lot from the carp boys with these types of rig, a lot of what you need to consider is the environment you are fishing over, which will, by and large dictate the hooklength, obviously things like flow will have an impact on the weight required. I do...

    Daiwa - exceptional customer service.......

Another one to big up Daiwa, I too have always had excellent service form them. I should also like to add their Float/Feeder rods were the only make I'd consider when I was a practicing match angler. They were the absolute Dogs Doo-Dahs! In fact I still have most of my rods from the 80's &...

Boredom is a wonderful thing...so is the demonstration of trivia!!!

    Mitchell Match 440A

The clue is the "A" after the 440. The original Mitchell Match reels were blue in colour, and had "Match" engraved on the gear case, with no number. The gearing inside the early reels was good quality Brass. When they added the "A" they also added a seal around the gear case and cheaper zinc...

    Mitchell Match 440A

Hi John, The original Mitchell Match reels were the blue ones signifying they were "hi Speed retrieve" reels, they had the same body & gearing as the 410, they were I think 4:1 ratio, The black "Finger Dab 330's were only 3:1 retrieve, and had the same insides as the old 300, with no roller...

    Mitchell Match 440A

Mark, I think you will find that the original reels had the brass gearing, they economised with the 410A & 440A by using flimsy zinc gears...

    Mitchell Match 440A

The reel in the photo is an "original" Mitchell Match, the gearing in these original reels was much better than the "440A" which could be distinguished from the earlier model obviously by the number on the gear case but also by the inclusion of a needless red plastic seal on the gear case cover...

Hi Mark, Good decision, the 7 in 1 jacket is really toastie...in fact its a bit too hot for our current weather. The lined Bib & Brace is similarly insulated and very comfy... On of my friends is bringing me an unlined Bib & Brace back next time he goes over for summer use. There is one...
