    Chris Packham

He’s not your everyday BBC presenter that’s for sure. Not likely to be either, being an Asperger syndrome sufferer. I like him as a presenter because he is passionate about nature and has a deep understanding of it. He’s not simply a pretty face who’s been rehearsed, which is the normal crap we...

    Mainline for Trent

I had 12lb Gardner pro on my carp rods for 3 years G and it was spot on. I’ve gone up to 15lb esp synchro xt now as on a weedier venue.

    Steven Devereux RIP

He was an incredibly helpful human being, on here and many other sites. RIP Chavender.

    River Pollution documentary live tomorrow

It’s on YouTube, Rivercide, hosted by George Monbiot. It’s very disturbing to watch and clearly signposts the end of the River Wye as a fishery, unless radical change is implemented.

    Sad News about JW

I sold a rod to him many years ago and did the exchange on the banks of the Colne. Straight talker with a great sense of humour. RIP JW.

    Dropped a bollock

I would sell it on Steve, while the market is hot. Like I said, I don’t think 280g is too heavy for trotting, but that thing is a brick. Ok for ledgering, but for trotting there are loads of better pins.

    BBC programme tonight, 7.40pm

I agree, that’s quite an accusation to make, and not a particularly helpful one, given the AT, through Fish Legal, would appear to be the only defenders of our rivers at the present time. The present government has instructed the EA to approach all pollution incidences with a light touch where...

    Dropped a bollock

Just for your info Steve, my Adcock Stanton weighs about 280g. I have used my Swallow MKII for trotting on a number of occasions and found it ok weight wise, but there’s no doubting there are lighter pins out there. My favourite trotting reel is my Swallow MKI, but even that’s a long way off the...

    Little boats

If it’s going in the sea it will need a trailer. I started with a 10ft ally car topper but quickly moved onto a 15ft trailered ally boat due to concerns about safety, and I only fish rivers and lakes. I did actually manage to sink my 10ft boat on the river once due to horrendous weather. It was...

Richard, not 100% sold on your camera set up but your sartorial taste is top drawer 🤪

Improved water ingress protection as well - down to 6m I believe and bigger screen than 7 plus in a slightly smaller body.

Anyone upgrading their iPhone imminently should loook at the iPhone 12 Pro. It has a dedicated front flash, improved night portrait software and higher quality camera. I’m upgrading in July.

Ulanzi do an led camera light which is smaller and lighter than the rhino ones. The latest version has a built in diffuser, the older version doesn’t but is cheaper at about £10. Two at 45 degrees works very well in conjunction with iPhone. You can use ProCam app to manually adjust shutter speed...

    Taking photo's with a flash

Just wondering what people are using these days for night time self portraits with an iPhone. I don’t carry a camera anymore but have been disappointed with my iPhone shots at night as the front flash is useless and I haven’t found a suitable external flash.

14ft and 15ft Rods for Trotting

Just a quick heads up for anyone thinking of buying a long rod for trotting. Bristol Angling are selling the Maver Signature Pro Classic rods in 14ft and 15ft at almost half price - £125 and £135 respectively. The longer version weighs 174g and by all accounts they’re a very decent river rod...

    Roach

I think keepnets become a problem when they contain too many fish and for too long. Also, how the fish are returned to the water from them can cause damage, but if used correctly, I don’t have a problem with them for the smaller species. I personally don’t use them because they’re just...

    Fishing officially permitted

Personally I think the AT have done a terrific job. Jamie Cook is really making a positive impact. Angling is an outdoors activity, so provided people adhere to the guidance, it should have no adverse impact on covid cases. Nothing is zero risk, people die getting in and out the bath.
