In the winter because Barbel do not move around so much you need to place a bait close to get a reaction so I cast around to different areas in the swim to try to find one, if no bites after an hour move to another swim and repeat. Using the lightest lead you can get away with to just hold in...
The Peacock Inn near Tenbury Wells used to sell day tickets for a stretch of the Teme years ago but don't know if they still do: https://www.thepeacockinn.info/ Might be worth giving them a ring.
I have tried various types of tinned meat but personally found that while they will all catch fish, spam always outfishes other varieties and I use meat 90% of the time. However I have found that you need to use spam fresh out of the tin when it has that fresh meaty smell which tends to...
Not sure where this thread will end but if there is one thing I have learned when Barbel fishing is keep it simple.
Free running leger, Rubber Buffer Bead, swivel and hook trace. the only variables as far as I am concerned is size of weight, material (braid or mono) - length - strength of hook...
How accurate are any scales Richard unless you can calibrate them before use. I thought with these you can instantly see an approx weight as soon as you lift the net out of the water. If it is a specimen you can use set of more accurate scales carried in rucksac. Otherwise to the nearest 8 ozs...

Rob these are what I and many others use, screw into firm ground and securely tie the knotted rope to the revolving ring. Very often there isn't a handy tree near swims to tie a rope to:
I have a dog spike with knotted rope attached and I purchased one of these zip bags from BFW shop as it fits neatly inside which is with me in my Rucksack should I need it as they are not the easiest of things to carry with you unless packed in something.
