I think the fly in their ointment so to speak will be their own behaviour. If they start or continue to land places for lunch breaks trespassing and leaving litter etc they will make few friends amongst land owners many of which will be by the nature of the beast in touch with their preferred...
If I’m in the position of using a bait which I intend to sit on for an hour or two or three, like boilies, then it’s a PVA bag. I prefer the subtler presentation of a lead.
If I’m planning on repeated casts, every 15 minutes or so, then it’s a feeder. Equally if it’s a tiny bait like maggot or...
The issue here really is what are you trying to kill and what’s an acceptable balance of risk and probability.
Most parasites aren’t going to survive drying out and UV (sunlight) exposure. But some especially the “egg” phase could. Warm (in excess of 37c) soapy or mildly chlorinated (bleached)...
For casting sub 10g it’s going to get expensive especially the lower end of your casting range.
It’s worth looking at John Sykes as he gets lots of stuff in on exchange etc. Some of the Chinese ones are well received.
I’m still on Fixed spools for this very reason.
Flouro carbon and Braid combi rig for me, total of about 20”. I use a dinky little quick change bead which helps pin down the hook length.
This way means swapping the actual hook length takes seconds, I can swap to a different set up without a single knot or cut. Makes storing spare pre-tied...
Done it in the past. Either scald by filling with kettle water before you leave, or let them soak over night. If you party fill you will get a mixture of consistencies which helps. I personally think it’s very good at creating instant attraction.
The downside is that you’ve got about 24 hours...
Most of my Barbel takes look exactly like Chub takes, that classic dink dink smash. That said my Pb Barbel was a slow click, click like a bit of weed caught on the line, it was if it was just wondering downstream with a 3oz lead under its fin, odd.
A couple of times this season I’ve had...
I do like the CC Moore Pacific Tuna, it’s got a lovely smell and since my post on this thread back in 2017 I’ve had a few fish on them. Unfortunately they are very soft, so those Chub plucks can leave you fishing baitless.
Do you belong to any local clubs? Being near people you know is probably the best way to feel and be safer. Plenty of safe places to fish, especially if you can travel.
I think we all struggle to remain motivated at times. Personally this time of year is a approaching a challenge. By the time I’ve finished work, got the kiddo to bed and got to the River it’s dark, on many stretches I’ve got just a couple or a few hours fishing before off time. It’s a lot of...
The Independent are a bit behind on this one, the Guardian covered it already and to a better standard I may add. Sadly the Independent have put their own anti Brexit slant on the issue.
All sorts of stuff out there.
The D.Stour has Terrapins, I’ve seen two of those with my own eyes. There’s also Goldfish. Heard rumours years ago of Sturgeon.
The H.Avon has Koi and Grassies, there’s quite a well known Gold Koi.
Somewhere over time I’ve seen a Pleco but I can’t remember for...
